Robert O. Wright I was born in Wilmington, Delaware, to the late Jacqueline L. Dorsey Wright Evans and Harry S. Wright. Robert was educated in the Wilmington Public School System, graduated from P.S. DuPont High School, and later attended Clark College (now Clark Atlanta University). On February 27, 1982, Robert married the love of his life, Deborah Ann Brinkley, and they had two sons, Robert II and Justen.
Robert’s love of funeral service began when he was fourteen years old. He later enrolled in the American Academy of McAllister Institute of Funeral Service in New York, NY. After graduation, he completed his apprenticeship and opened The House of Wright Mortuary, Inc. on August 9, 1987. Later in his career, Robert obtained his license to practice in the state of Maryland and expanded the business to include additional locations in Smyrna and Penns Grove, NJ.
In 1993, Robert joined Bethel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church under the pastorate of Reverend Dr. Silvester Scott Beaman. Robert served on the Trustee Board, sang briefly with the King of Kings Choir, and served on the Usher Board. He was a former President of Bethel AME Church‘s Usher Board, former President of the Interdenominational Church Ushers Association of Delaware, former Worthy Patron of Star in the East Lodge #1, former Noble of the Mystic Shriner Suakim Temple #60, and a previous member of the Delaware State Board of Funeral Services.
Robert’s organizational affiliations included being a Prince Hall Mason, Life Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, member of the Interdenominational Church Ushers Association, member of the National United Church Ushers Association of America, member of the National Funeral Directors Association, and a member of the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association.
Deborah Ann Brinkley Wright is a native of Wilmington, DE. She is the eldest of seven children to Betty A. Mitchell and the late Warren E. Brinkley, Sr.
Deborah was married to Robert O. Wright, I CFSP, owner and founder, and is the mother of Robert O. Wright, II and Justen A. Wright, CFSP and two daughters-in-law, Trista Wright and Blair Wright. She is the proud grandmother of, Robert O. Wright, III, Latrell, Stephon, Justen A. Wright, II, Raegan, Skylar, Kobe, Karter, and Alex.
Deborah graduated from Delcastle Technical High School with a diploma in Medical Assistance. She graduated from Wesley College with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. She is a member of the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church under the Pastorate of Rev. Dr. Silvester S. Beaman and is the Past President of the Senior Usher Board. Her civic duties include being the First Vice President of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club, Wilmington, DE Club, a member of St. Matthews Grand Chapter, OES, PHA, and Past Matron of Star of Bethlehem Chapter #8 OES, PHA.
Since the beginning, when Robert and Deborah started The House of Wright with their two sons, Robert II and Justen, family has been at the center of everything we do. Justen A. Wright, a second-generation funeral director, has expanded the mortuary to include a group of trained professionals with a passion for helping families navigate life’s most difficult moments. Justen was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware, and matriculated through the Delaware School System, graduating from Alexis I. DuPont High School at the age of sixteen. He received his associate degree in New York City from the American Academy of McAllister Institute of Funeral Service and continued his education at Wilmington University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management...
After completing a one-year apprenticeship under his father, Robert O. Wright, Justen became the youngest licensed funeral director in the State of Delaware at the age of 20. In June of that same year, he served as the keynote speaker for Delaware State University’s Young Entrepreneur Conference. He reinvested his honorarium from Delaware State University into entrepreneurial programs to uplift neighborhoods throughout Wilmington’s 19801 and 19802 zip codes. He has been involved in S.A.F.E. (Student and Family Enrichment, a project that hosts crime prevention workshops and activities for intercity families. To further his career, Justen became a Certified Funeral Service Practitioner (CFSP). He was featured in the February 2010 edition of Delaware Today Magazine in an article titled, “Our Black Leaders.” He was also featured in City Life Magazine in an article titled, “19 Energizers.”
In 2008, at the age of 24, Justen was elected the youngest City Councilman in the history of Wilmington City Council. He served on the 105th Council as an “At Large” Councilmember serving the entire City of Wilmington. Justen is a licensed pre-need insurance agent; an active member of Ezion Fair Baptist Church under the pastorate of Pastor C. T. Curry, Ph.D., D.Min.; an active member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; District II Governor for the National Funeral Director’s & Morticians Association; Past President of Delaware State Funeral Directors Association; immediate past Chairperson of the membership committee for the National Funeral Directors & Morticians Association; a former Board Member for Connections C.S.P.; and the Amputee Coalition of Delaware. Justen Wright is married to the former Trista Laster and is the proud father of Justen A. Wright II and Alex R. Wright.
Justen has received various awards and acknowledgments from community organizations, including the Markevic A. Johnson Scholarship Foundation, the Newark Chapter NAACP, the Mid-Atlantic District of The National Association of Negro Business, and Professional Women’s Clubs Inc. Justen is a firm believer in helping others and is committed to giving back to the community. He remains a positive role model for young people from all backgrounds.
Dr. Jacquita Wright-Henderson, LFD is a compassionate and caring professional who serves in various roles in the community and as a leader in numerous organizations. Dr. Jacquita was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware. After graduating from The Tatnall School, her thirst for knowledge propelled her to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Delaware; Master of Science degree in Human Resource Management from Wilmington University; Master of Divinity degree in Theology from Payne Theological Seminary; and a Doctorate of Education degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Delaware in addition to a diploma in Funeral Service Management from the American Academy Mcallister Institute of Funeral Service in New York, NY.
As you can see, Dr. Jacquita values education. She worked at Delaware Technical Community College for over 20 years before retiring as an Administrator who was responsible for overseeing the college’s planning, assessment, and accreditation processes. Dr. Jacquita is currently a Licensed Funeral Director and Licensed Preneed Insurance Agent at The House of Wright Mortuary, Inc.; Pastor of Mt. Zion AME Church, Darby, PA; a Notary; business owner of JLW Enterprises; founding President of The Parliamentarians of Kent County, Delaware, a unit of the National Association of Parliamentarians®;
and President of the Delaware State Association of Parliamentarians.
Dr. Jacquita is a life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® She has received numerous awards within the sorority and currently serves as the Sigma Zeta Omega Chapter’s leadership development committee chairman and as a member of the North Atlantic Region’s Constitution Committee. Dr. Jacquita is committed to helping others while she enjoys life as a mother, grandmother, and wife to her loving husband, Keith.
