Obituary of Lt. Jonathan Duane Hall, Sr.

Jonathan Duane Hall, affectionately known as Joe, was born on May 26, 1972, at Beebe Hospital in Lewes, DE. A curious and energetic child, Jonathan attended Rehoboth Elementary. He continued to Millsboro Middle School and graduated as a proud Sussex Central Knight in 1990. Jonathan was a loving, caring and mischievous young man who doted on his mother.

He was a proud Delaware Blue Hen and during his matriculation, he was initiated into Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in 1992. That same year, he also met his college sweetheart and future wife, Shanda Williams. He graduated with a degree in Elementary Education in 1995 and became a teacher in Prince Georges County, MD, for a year before joining the Wilmington Police Department in 1996. Always the achiever, Jonathan advanced from Officer to Sergeant in 2013, and finally to Lieutenant in 2014. At the time of his retirement in 2016, Jonathan served as Lieutenant of the Communications Division.

Jonathan Duane Hall was raised in Rising Sun No. 4 on 11/17/2000. After relocating to New Castle County he demitted into Union Lodge No. 21 where he served as Worshipful Master from 2009 through 2011. Frater Jonathan Hall was exalted in Palestine Chapter No. 3, Holy Royal Arch Masonry. Ill Companion Hall was received and greeted as a Royal and Select Master into the Jurisdiction of Virginia. Sir Knight Hall was Dubbed into Antioch Commander #7 Knights of Templar (Jurisdiction of Virginia). Sublime Prince Hall was elevated into Corinthian Consistory No. 5. (32 °). Noble Jonathan Hall was created in Suakim Temple No. 60.

In April 2013, Jonathan was diagnosed with Philadelphia Chromosome Positive Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), a particularly aggressive form of cancer. After battling the disease with strength, courage, and faith, he was unable to remain in remission and died suddenly on Thursday, November 24, 2016, surrounded by his loved ones at home.
