William Smack, born on March 26, 1951, in lower Delaware. He departed this life on February 24, 2025, in Newark, Delaware at Christiana Hospital at the age of 73. Willie brought so much love and laughter into the lives of everyone around him. He had a vibrant personality and a memory that was sharp as a tack (he would always make sure that whenever we are leaving work, we have our car keys, pocketbook , water bottle with us) we could depend on Willie to remind us on things that we would normally forget.
Willie had a deep passion for oldies music and gospel songs. His love for music was infectious, and he would often sing along when the music was playing. Mr. Willie was a giving man, and God fearing, believing that the Lord made a way for him. He never allowed himself to waver from his faith. Through all his struggles, he always believed that God had a plan for his life. One thing about Mr. Willie, he always found the good in every person he had the pleasure to interact with, and in every situation he endured.
Willie leaves to cherish his only living sister Mary Drummond. He is proceeded in death by his parents Leon Lee Smack, Sr (Father) and Lilly Mae Smack (Mother). His siblings Leon Jr (brother), Diana (sister), Herman (brother), and Val (extended daughter). The unconditional love for family and friends, and that kind heart of resilience will never be forgotten.
Although Mr. Willie did not have any biological children of his own, his extended Montrose family was more than enough to fill his heart and share his love. His sons Dan, Raheem, Sean, and Williams. His daughters, Audrey, Ana, Rose, Leisa, Oneida, and Shamirra. His Grandson’s, George, Kamau, Rex, and his only beloved granddaughter, Lyric. His best friends Sean, Danny, Stephen, and Willie T. He also leaves to cherish a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many other loving family members and friends.
When you think of Mr. Willie, remember how much he loved being in the sun. So when you step outside and feel the sun touch your face, just know that Mr. Willie is saying, “I’m always with you!”
He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Rest in peace Willie your love and laughter will forever be in our hearts.
