William "Bunny" Allen Jr. was born April 20,1934 in Wilmington, Delaware to the late William H. Allen Sr. and Lena Mae Glasco. Bunny departed this life on October 13,2018. Bunny as he has been known since childhood was educated in the Wilmington Public Schools and attended Howard High School. Bunny accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Tabernacle Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. Holmes. After leaving school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served honorably for 23 years. During his service, Bunny earned the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged in 1973. After leaving the military Bunny began work as a longshoreman on the Wilmington waterfront and retired after 30 years of service. While working on the waterfront Bunny became active in the International Longshoreman ILA Local 1699 and the LWC. He traveled around the country advocating for the rights of longshoremen. Bunny was preceded in death by his parents, William H. Allen Sr. and Lena Mae Glasco; children, Warren, Michael, and Nadine Allen. Bunny is survived by his grandson, Therron Sheehy; one sister, Betty Ann Brown(Omaha,Ne); nieces, Daryle Glynn Brown(Inglewood Ca) Natalie E. Brown(Eritrea, Africa); cousin, Calvanetta Linder(Philadelphia Pa); five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one great niece, two great great nieces and many friends.
