Walter Thomas Brown

October 7, 1953 — August 13, 2024

Walter Thomas Brown of Bear, Delaware, was born on October 7, 1953 in Wilmington, Delaware. He was born to Lilburn V. Brown, and Marjorie Virginia Brown. He transitioned to be with the Lord on August 13, 2024 at Christiana Care in Newark, Delaware.

Walter received his early childhood education at Mary C.I. Williams Elementary, and Bayard Middle School. He graduated from Wilmington High School in 1971.

After his high school career, Walter, (fondly referred to by most as “Walt”), earned his CDL License and began work at the former Matthew’s Office Products where he worked his way to Office Manager and Supervisor of Delivery Services for 21 years. Upon the closing of Matthew’s, he continued in the same capacity at Charles Taylor & Associates. Sadly, after 18+ years at Penske Trucking, Walt and his wife, Kendra decided it was best that he retire, as his health began to significantly decline. He also selflessly cared for his wife Kendra until her passing in 2019 after a long battle with Sarcoidosis.

Walter was a man of great humility, strength, intelligence, wisdom, with an endearing sense of humor. He was a devoted husband, father and provider for his family whom he unapologetically prioritized above all others. Walt had an abundance of hobbies and interests. He was a fan of various music genres. It would not be surprising to find him listening to artists including, but never limited to, The Delfonics, The Stylisics , Earth Wind and Fire, Parliament Funkadelic (featuring George Clinton), his absolute favorite Bootsy Collins. Walt also enjoyed the music of Peter Frampton, Tom Petty, Journey and more. In his later years he relaxed to the sounds of various Jazz musicians, such as Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Stanley Clarke, Bob James, Nathan East, George Benson, Norman Brown, George Duke, Candy Dulfer, Sherry Winston, Anita Baker and so many more.

He also was a lifelong fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and the Philadelphia Eagles. Every year Walt’s home became “Super Bowl Central”. He was infamous for providing an elaborate spread, engaging in pre-game conversations and predictions, and arguably the best host. Walt was always excited to do something that brought him so much joy, regardless of team matchup. It was always a memorable and enjoyable experience for all in attendance.

Walt and his mother Marjorie were dedicated fans of Golf. They often watched a young Tiger Woods take the sport, (and world) by storm. This experience helped inspire him to golf. He went on to earn several awards, became a member of The PGA Tour Partners Club, and was nominated for Lifetime Membership and Partnership of The Year in 2005. He also traveled across the East coast to participate multiple tournaments.

Walter was preceded in death by:

His wife of 38 years and the love of his life, Kendra A. Brown, His father Lilburn V. Brown, Sr., mother Marjorie Virginia Brown and siblings Lilburn ”Junior” Brown and Gilbert N. “Rap” Brown.
