Vernon Lee Cropper, son of Grace Drummond and the late Samuel Cropper, Sr., was born October 21, 1949 in Pocomoke City, MD. Vern departed this life Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at 1:00 p.m., at home surrounded by his family. Vern, Vern Lee or Mr. Vern, as he was affectionately known, received his education in the Worcester County Public School System, attending Stephen Long Elementary School, Worcester High School and graduating from Pocomoke High School, in Pocomoke City, MD. Vern joined the Army on July 1974 and specialized in Field Artillery. He was stationed in Nuremberg, Germany and was an expert rifleman with the M16. Vern was a member of King Solomon Lodge Chapter No. 1. Upon returning home from the military, Vern worked as a security guard and retired from Red Clay School District after 25 years. He was known to drive bus number 223. He also worked for First Transit Transportation until he became ill. Vern was joined in holy matrimony to his wife, Lana for 28 years. From this union they have four daughters. Vern loved to dance, play cards and shoot pool. Vern was an avid Eagles and Phillies fan. Vern was preceded in death by his sons, Vernon, Jr., and James Cropper; brothers, Robert Cropper, Sr., Samuel Cropper, Jr., and Jesse Drummond; sister, Mildred cropper and granddaughter, Zahkeyrah Ward. Vern leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memories his wife of 28 years, Lana Cropper, Wilmington, DE; mother, Grace Drummond, Pocomoke city, MD; four daughters: Shawnette Johnson (Alan), Tyreese Hargrow (Rahim), Anita Crawford, LaWanda Cropper (Elijah, aka Star), all of Wilmington, DE; two sisters: Althea Waters (Cornell, Sr.) of New Castle, DE, Cynthia Blake, Pocomoke City, MD; two brothers: Kenneth Drummond (Lovely), Upper Marlboro, MD and Lucius Brown, III (Tara), New Castle, DE; eight grandchildren: Keith, John Zha'kee, Tiarrha, Keianna, Anthony, Zha'mere, and Adyra; one great-granddaughter, Zaniah; two sisters-in-law: Lillian Miller and Tara Brown; one brother-in-law, Cornell Waters, Sr., (whom he considered a brother); nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
