Verna Mae Rollins, daughter of William S. Rollins, III and Theodosia M. Leatherbury-Rollins was born on July 11, 1950 in Wilmington, DE. She departed this life peacefully surrounded by family & friends on February 4, 2017. Verna received her education at Howard High School in Wilmington, DE, where she majored in cosmetology and later went on to complete and receive her GED at Delaware Technical Community College in Newark, DE. Next she attended Women's Power at the YMCA, Wilmington DE, where she completed a certificate program for "Parent Education and Training for Non-Traditional Jobs." Throughout her life she continued to make education one of her important priorities. She earned a certificate in Business and Clerical Training at Delaware Elwym Institute, of Wilmington, DE in preparation for her career. Before her passing, she was enrolled in Professional Career and Development Institute, where she was pursuing a medical and dental assistant degree. Over the years as her life's journey took many unexpected twists and turns, her experiences and hard work ethics continually caused her to be promoted in her employment career. She was employed at the Atlantic Thrift department store as Assistant Manager for many years. She later was employed at a popular restaurant establishment as Assistant Supervisor and years later she worked for Wilmington Housing Authority, Hamilton House Condos, and Day & Zimmerman Security as a security guard. Verna received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at Sharon Temple Seventh Day Adventist Church in Wilmington, DE. She always trusted that HE was with her at all times and shared His goodness and love with everyone who would listen. She was determined that no matter what life threw her way, she would glean the wisdom and pass it on to her family and friends. In addition to her many accomplishments and by the grace of God, she was a single parent who managed to raise four beautiful daughters that now have families of their own. Verna loved spending time with her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time in prayer, reading, education, singing, dancing, caring for her plants, baking, and decorating. In her homegoing, Verna was loved by her mother Theodosia M. Leatherbury-Rollins and her grandparents who predeceased her. She is survived by her father William S. Rollins, III; her daughters: Yolanda Ravenel, Malinda Rollins, Joanne Anderson-Newman, and Alisha Anderson; sons-in-law: Andr Newman and James Ravenel, III; twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Verna was the beloved sister of: Mary L. Dorsey, Carolyn Rollins Smith, William Rollins, IV, Evg. Mildred Washington, Sheila Rollins, I, Roland Rollins, Sr., Marita Long, and the late Martisha Benson. She is also survived by a host of in-laws, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
