"I Can Do All Things through Christ Who Strengthens Me"
Philippians 4:13 Vanessa Stewart affectionately known as "Carmen" went home to be with the Lord on Monday October 30, 2017 at the age of 60. Vanessa was born on August 7, 1957 in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Albert A. Stewart Sr. and Beulah E. Stewart. Vanessa is preceded in death by Alton Stewart (brother) and Karen Stewart (sister). She received her early education in Delaware schools and graduated from PS DuPont High School in 1974 located in Wilmington, Delaware. Most of her career was spent in the capacity of environmental services before retiring from the City of Wilmington in 1982. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church where she enjoyed regular fellowship.
Vanessa was a joy to be around. She was fun, loving, and family oriented. She enjoyed family gatherings, cooking (was known for her famous sweet potato pies), singing, long phone conversations and getting pampered. Oh, and let's not forget traveling, never had to ask her twice to hit the road! Nothing gave her life more purpose than God and her grandchildren. She admired each one of them and enjoyed being with them often. When we think of "Carmen" the word "Champion" should come to mind. She was definitely the epiphany of one. No matter what circumstance came her way, her resiliency and faith allowed her to be the champion! Vanessa is survived by daughters (Tammy Stewart and Queen Stewart) 1 brother (Albert Stewart Jr.), 4 sisters (Carolyn Stewart, Althea Wilkerson, Bettina Marshall, and Cheryl Stewart) 6 grandchildren (Fatima Stewart, Baseer Pierce, Ja'Niaya McCray, Amenia Pierce, Kaleema Thomas, and Jakeevis McCray Jr.) 1 great-grand (Faatih Gibson), dear lifelong friend (Beatrice Boyd) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends
