Tyler-Bey Martrelle Ponzo was born on September 7, 1994, left this world far too soon on
November 1, 2024. Tyler-Bey was a truly special soul, radiating warmth and kindness that
touched everyone he met. His Journey was defined by love, loyalty and a profound connection
to family and friends. His vibrant spirit, infectious laughter and unforgettable smile enriched the
lives of those around him.
For Tyler-Bey, family was everything, and his beloved children-sons Tyler-Bey Jr, Tysier,
Legend, Treasure, and daughter Tristan were the center of his universe. His love for them was
fierce and unwavering, a legacy of dedication and devotion that will forever be a part of their
lives.
A proud graduate of Alexis I. DuPont High School, Tyler-Bey’s passion for basketball was well-
known. He was a gifted player and avid fan, always ready to share his love for the game. Music
too brought him deep joy and served as a creative outlet, a space where he found expression
and connection. Tyler-Bey also had a deep love for computers and technology, spending
countless hours exploring, learning and sharing his knowledge.
Tyler-Bey’s memory lives on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. He is survived by his
devoted mother, Marquist Ponzo; his Godfather, Michael Boykin; his Godmother Annette Powell
and his loving grandmother, Rosalyn Ponzo.
Throughout his life, Tyler-Bey was profoundly influenced by his uncles, who were steadfast
sources of guidance and support. Leonard and Corey Ponzo and Robert and Justin Wright each
of them played a unique role in shaping his charismatic character, inspiring him with their
strength, wisdom and dedication to family. Their influence helped mold Tyler-Bey into the kind-
hearted, loyal man he became, passing down values of resilience, integrity and love that he
carried forward in all his relationships.
His faithful Aunt Teali; his dear cousins Zatharay, Tiara, Tyla, Aly’sa, Martrelle and his sister in
love Kristen.
His cherished Aunt Rochelle stood by his side through life’s highs and lows; Paternal
Grandmother Sylvia Riley and Paternal great grandmother Margaret Edwards, He was
surrounded by a host of other aunts, uncles and cherished friends who were like family. Tyler’s
life was also blessed by his God sisters, Jasmine and Jawharra, Godbrothers, Michael, Matthew
and Avery and close friends Miguel Archilla Jr., Shawn Marshall and Semaje Massas, who were
always by his side.
Tyler joins in heaven those who preceded him, including his beloved grandfather Lewis R.
Williams, his great-grandmother Sophia A. Allen, his great grandparents Charles and Eunice
David and his uncle Alvan Butcher. Their spirits now watch over him as he finds peace and rest.
Family and friends please help us to celebrate and share memories of this extraordinary young
man who had the power to make each person he encountered feel special. He had the ability to
turn an individual’s frown into a smile with his unmeasurable wit, cheerfulness and friendliness.
Tyler-Bey your spirit will be missed beyond measure.
