Shirley was born September 5, 1942 on Delaware Ave. in Hopewell, VA to the late Helen & Curtis Drew. She received her angel wings Tuesday morning, November 20, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Shirley received her early-childhood education from Arlington Road Elementary School in Hopewell, VA. Upon graduating from Carter G. Woodson High School in 1960, Shirley moved to Wilmington, DE and soon enrolled in the Northeastern Christian Junior College in Villanova, PA where she studied and completed a 2-year degree in Christian Studies. She soon married her "good man", Wilbur L. Brown, on March 16, 1963. From this loving union, Wilbur and Shirley became parents to the late Wilbur L. Brown, Jr., Sharon, Christopher, and Tyrone. They also opened their home and heart to 11 foster children over the years. Shirley accepted Christ at a young age of 14 at the Davisville Church of Christ in Hopewell, VA under the leadership of Brother Stevens. Shirley remained a good and faithful member of Church of Christ for 63 years, with 57 years at the Northeast Church of Christ in Wilmington, DE. She worked for the DuPont Country Club for 23 years in food service before retiring to spend more time with her family. Her hobbies included; reading, writing poems, cooking, gardening, taking pictures of her family, and watching her favorite shows: Matlock, Columbo, Any Griffith, and Walker Texas Ranger, and In the Heat of the Night. She is preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Helen Drew, her son Wilbur L. Brown, Jr.; and 3 brothers John "Mickey" Drew, James "Jimmy" Drew, and Curtis "Skipper" Drew. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her husband of over 56 years, Wilbur L. Brown; 3 children Sharon, Christopher (Janieka), and Tyrone; 7 grandchildren Isaiah, Ashlee, Nadia, Christopher Jr., Brandon, Myles, and Caden; 2 sisters France Cockroft and Nancy Taylor; 2 brothers William (Lucille) Drew and Nelson (Cheryl) Drew; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
