Samuel L. Reeves, Sr., affectionately known as Big Daddy, Slice, and Brownie, was born on October 20, 1938 to the late Boyd Raymond and Rosiebell Reeves in Oxford, PA. He was the fourth of nine siblings. On Tuesday, August 27, 2024 Sam departed this life at the Chester County Hospital with his wife, oldest daughter, and his granddaughter (his personal nurse) by his side.
Sam grew up in Oxford, PA and attended Hickory Hill Elementary school until the eighth grade. When his father became ill, Sam sacrificed his education to work on Ernest Crowl Farm to help provide for his family. Sam worked at Phillips Greenhouse and multiple mushroom companies. In 1980 he began working at the Chester County Prison and retired in 2006 as a maintenance supervisor.
Sam met the love of his life with the help of his sisters by passing love notes in the choir box at Christ Temple Church. On February 17, 1962 he married his forever love, Helen. To their union, they were blessed to have five children: Jacquelyn Louise, Samuel Lee Jr., Catherine Kimberly, Wendy Dawn and Harry Boyd.
Sam was a faithful deacon, servant, and original member of Christ Temple Church (Greater Works Ministries). In 2021 he began worshipping and continued serving his capacity as Deacon at Highway Word of Faith.
In his early years, Sam enjoyed spending time at the racetrack racing his car he called Two Cent Stamp. Through the years, he enjoyed spending time with Helen going shopping, running errands and eating breakfast on Saturday mornings at Perkins in their matching outfits. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren and great- grandchildren’s sporting events.
Sam is predeceased by his parents Boyd Raymond and Rosiebell Reeves, brothers Joseph, Paul, Guy and Robert Reeves and his baby girl Wendy Dawn Box.
Sam leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Helen L. Reeves; daughters Jacquelyn Wilson and Catherine Reeves; sons Samuel L. Reeves, Jr. and Harry Reeves; son-in-love Raiford Box, IV; grandchildren Tania Wilson, Tashia Wilson, Jazmine Bell (Tyshawn), LeShae Haynes, Cody Reeves (Olivia), Lawrence Haynes, Jr., LeNeece Mullens (Jordan), Raiford Box V, Noah Box, Corrine Reeves, Taa Box, and Caleb Reeves; great -grandchildren Edward Emmens, IV “LD,” Tatiana Emmens, Dylan Wilson, Roman Reeves, Keelan Reeves, Kaia Bell, Oaklynn Bell, Lateef “LJ” Russell, and Alora Reeves; sisters Elsie Reeves and Florence Dickinson; brothers Richard Reeves and James Reeves (Donna); brothers-in-love E. Richard McKim, Sr. and Wayne Norton (Arlene); goddaughter Cheryl Ann Clark; his special girls Vanessa, Valerie, Vickie, Veronica and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
