Ryne Virgil Martin, age 65 transitioned to his final resting place on Saturday, June 15 th , 2024, surrounded by his loving family at Christiana Hospital. Ryne was born on July 18, 1958, to Bernis and Grace Martin. Ryne was the 4 th of 5 children.
Ryne began his educational journey at George Gray Elementary School, followed by Warner Elementary School, and he attended Wilmington High School. Having not completed his high school diploma, Ryne was persistent in obtaining his GED which he finally obtained.
In his earlier years, Ryne was an avid swimmer and he loved baseball and fishing as well as boating alongside his father on his boat. He loved going to Kingswood Community Center and the H. Fletcher Brown Boys Club. In his later years, Ryne became a lover of jazz music.
Ryne was the family handy man and would do anything for you. Whenever somebody needed anything done, you could call Ryne and he would be there with his bright smile ready to assist. From detailing cars, to moving and hauling, lawn care, painting, etc. Ryne enjoyed learning and working alongside his uncles in building and maintaining the family’s Country House. His very last act of handy man duties was doing his mother’s lawn and painting her room to perfection.
Ryne was a very stylish man. As a young adult, Ryne would often travel to Philadelphia with his friends to buy the latest “skins” and fedora’s. He stayed in the bathroom more than his three sisters, primping in the mirror. They all knew they needed to get in the bathroom before Ryne because he would take forever.
Ryne’s journey in life took many twists and turns however, it ended with him choosing the narrow path to Christ and he was baptized on November 19, 2017. When Ryne surrendered his life to Christ, he attended several churches and could be found daily watching his favorite TV evangelist.
Ryne was very reliable and a dedicated protector of his mother and younger sister.
Ryne’s bright smile, kind and gentle spirit will be missed by all who truly loved and knew him.
