Rupert A. Davis

May 5, 1950 — October 4, 2021

The Journey of

Rupert Alexander Davis (affectionally known as "Dee" and "Smoky") was born on May 5, 1950, in St. Ann Jamaica, West Indies. He peacefully transitioned this life on October 4, 2021, in Newark, Delaware. He was the son of Hubert A. Davis and Enid A. Davis of St. Ann, Jamaica.

Dee grew up with his siblings and two nieces Phyllis and Norma. Dee was a child who loved to play, learn and help his father on his farm. Dee attended Stepney School in the Stepney District of St. Ann Jamaica. He immigrated to the United States on July 4, 1970.

Dee obtained his machinist and welding certificates from the Wilmington Skills Center and Hodgson Vocational Technical School. He then worked at Whiley Shipyard in Maryland, Wilmington Medical Center, Phoenix Steel Corporation, and the Philadelphia Navy Shipyard.

Dee was married to Effie "Sonia" Davis and had three children, Stacy, Kevin, and Deborah. He also had a stepdaughter, Lorna Chambers (Anthony). Dee later married his wife of 34 years, Angella Davis, and had two children, Deangie and Daniel.

He prided himself in being well put together, even when relaxing at home. Dee loved working in his yard and farming, sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. He loved planting flowers for his wife to enjoy. Dee liked to travel with his family, attend church services, and showcase his coin collection. He took pride in spending time with his grandchildren and was always amazed by them. Dee loved the Lord and was firm in his faith. He gave his life to Christ many years ago.

Dee was a self-taught scholar and avid reader. He loved learning about history and reading books on various topics. As a scholar, he enthusiastically supported his children and grandchildren in their
educational and career aspirations.

He always rooted for others with great optimism and never failed to assist his family when needed and was an ardent contributor to non-profit organizations that supported families in need.

As a young man and throughout adulthood, Dee's brother and lifetime best friend Sonnyman was an integral part of his life. Never living more than 10 minutes apart, they were each other's road dawg and support system, ensuring that their children grew up together and maintained a bond like their own. The relationship that they shared continued until Dee's final days, with Sonnyman never leaving his side.

Dee is preceded in death by his parents Hubert & Enid Davis, son Kevin Davis, sister Norma Robb, brothers Leonard Davis and Willie Davis. To cherish his memory, Dee leaves behind: his wife Angella Davis and children: Stacy Davis of Philadelphia, PA, Deborah Davis Beadle (Michael) of Wynnewood PA, Deangie Davis of Philadelphia, PA, and Daniel Davis of Newark, DE. He has three grandchildren: Naji Balkaran, Kai Balkaran, Niya Beadle, and a bonus grandson Makai Beadle. He leaves behind his sisters
Nola Baker (Headley) of Bear, DE; Eugenny Richardson of London UK; Evangelist Evelyn Higgin (Derrick) of Bear, DE; Imogene Berbick of Jamaica; and Ivy Griffin of Elkton, MD. He also leaves behind his
brothers "Son" Davis of London UK; Gaston Davis of London UK; Hugh Peart of St. Ann, Jamaica; and Owen "Sonnyman" Davis (Joyce) of Newark DE. His memory will continue to be cherished by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

There are no words to express what a great man he was and how much he will truly be missed by his family and friends, however, we find solace knowing that he is now resting in heavenly peace.
