Robert L. Benson, affectionately known as Bobby-Lee was born on December 2, 1927 and departed this life on Thursday, January 22, 2004 at the Wilmington Hospital. Bobby-Lee, the son of the late Clarence Jones and Eleanor Scott was born in Wilmington, DE., He received his education from the Wilmington Public School System. After leaving school he worked at the Hotel DuPont until leaving to work for Abex Steel until his retirement. Bobby-Lee was united in holy matrimony to Flora E. Martin and from this union 9 children were born; Sheila, Blair, Sandy, Bruce, Kirk, Clark, Michael(deceased), Deborah and Carlton Louis(deceased). An older son, Robert Anderson(deceased) was later reunited with his sisters and brother. Bobby-Lee was a hard working, fun loving husband, father, brother and friend. He enjoyed sports, cooking and traveling. Robert was a 32nd degree Pat Grand Master with the African Harmony Grand Lodge F.A.A.Y.M. of the Masonic Order and a founding member of the Aristocrat Club. In 1992 Bobby-Lee became a member of Greater St. Jon Baptist Church, serving on the Trustee Board until his sickness made it almost impossible for him to continue his duties. Robert, who was preceded in death by his brother, Osborn Benson, leaves to be blessed with his memories his wife, Flora M. Benson; 3 sons, Bruce E., Kirk L., abd clark Benson; 4 daughters, Sheila P. Jones, Blair Y., Sandra L. and Deborah L. Benson; 32 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 1 son-in-law, Harold L.Stith; 2 daughter-in-law. M. Shiela Dorsey and Shirley Commodore; 5 "adopted" children, Rosalind W. Smith, Barbara Jean Wilson, Lois Mitchell, Nadine Showell and Patricia Wing: 1 sister, Dorthy Harris; 2 brothers, William A. Benson and Richard Scott; 1 brother-in-law, Leeona Henderson; 2 sister-in-law, Leona Henderson and Sylvia Scott; 2 great aunts-in-law, Isabella martin and Ida Burton; cherished and devoted friend, Charles "Bud' Davis and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
