Robert Lee Mills, Jr. was born on August 26, 1964, in Crisfield, MD to Robert Lee Mills, Sr. and Dinah Harris Benn. He peacefully transitioned with his family by his side on Saturday, November 23, 2024 in Gwinnett County, Georgia.
Robert, affectionately now “Boe” received his education in the New Castle County school system in Delaware, graduating from Wilmington High School in 1982. At the tender age of 18, his life forever changed for the better when he welcomed his first-born son Robert “Laron” Urquhart. Boe took pride in his son, if you knew him you knew, being a father was his greatest accomplishment.
Shortly after graduation, Boe began his career pathway by obtaining employment with Blue Cross Blue Shield (Wilmington, DE) and Keystone Mercy, where he was a faithful employee for over 20 years. Customer Service was not enough for Boe. In the early 2000s, he began his long journey as a truck driver. This journey began at Pepsi Beverages Company, which did not last long. Boe was for sure a hard worker. He also worked at Burris and the Port of Wilmington.
In September 1988, Boe met and married Yolanda Matthews. Together they had a son Ammar Lanier. Although they would later go their separate ways, you could often hear him relate to Yolanda, as his best friend. Within the 19 years of love between Contessa Walker and Boe, his brat, Aniyah Mills was born in 2003. Aniyah completed his heart strings, and we can proudly say, she had her dad wrapped around her fingers.
We all know Boe to love sports! Growing up, he looked forward to the many bowling trips with his uncle June, his brother, Michael and their cousins. While bowling did not fulfill his sport’s needs, Boe found himself loving the game of football. As early as we can remember, he played for Wilmington Little League football team “The Trojans”. Boe knew the game of football well. Among his favorite football teams were the Pittsburgh Steelers and Florida State Seminoles. You could often see him with his Steelers Jersey, Hats, Socks and keychains every day. If you followed him on social media, you know he talked a lot of trash during the football season and personally believed, he was the #1 fan to the greatest team in the NFL. We know Boe, didn’t have any problems debating and boosting this fact. Boe was really looking forward to attending the Steelers vs. Baltimore Ravens game on December 21, 2024, with his son LaRon.
Boe joined Grace Christian Fellowship under the leadership of Pastor Cean James in Philadelphia, PA, in 2008 where he served faithfully as trustee and usher until his relocation.
In 2019 Boe, joined the Thunderguards Motorcycle Club and PROUDLY earned the name “Hardwork.” He was extremely dedicated to the organization and his brotherhood.
In 2021, Boe took a chance at change, packed up his clothes, took his bike, and his truck and headed toward Atlanta, GA to be with his only niece, DeJunae. While in Georgia he continued to be a Thunderguard and worked at Walmart as a long-distance truck driver.
Boe was a man of Strong faith and conviction, he never hesitated to share jokes, tell his story, give great advice or keep your most precious secrets. When in his presence, you knew his smile lit up a room and his voice could be heard long before he was seen. Boe was Small in stature but big in heart. Boe, who cherished the importance of family and friendship, enjoyed being
able to spend time with those he loved at BBQs. He threw the best BBQ’s! He could be found at any function, where laughter and music were the key features.
His kids, Grandkids, Siblings, Niece and Nephews will all admit, there was NOTHING Boe could not do.
Boe was preceded in death by his father, Robert Mills, Sr, his mother, Dinah Harris Benn, step- father James Benn; aunts, Dorothy Ames, Flora “Rose” Hardy, and Mary Veney; uncles, Phillip Harris, Sr., and George Ames, cousin, Warren Veney and Katera Harris, his best friends, John “Jay” Johnson and Todd Hicks.
