Excerpts from a life well-lived
An avid reader, a devoted spiritual teacher, a talented decorator, a world traveler, an adored family member, and friend - Richard Allen Urquhart lived a rich and full life until he passed on July 14, 2021.
Richard was born to Whalon and Maryemma Urquhart in Wilmington, Delaware on April 7, 1946. Richard valued education, graduating from Delaware Technical and Community College, the University of Cincinnati, Thomas More College, and the University of Louisville. He committed his life to helping others: as a teacher, as a mentor, and over his thirty-year career in social work in Washington DC.
From an early age, Ricky was a devoted Christian and a faithful student, teacher, and practitioner of the Science of the Mind philosophy. He believed that every act, done well, could be an act of worship, and was committed to guiding every person he encountered to their own authentic relationship with God. The Awakened Heart Spiritual Center, the M'Backe house of hope, and his very home are among the places he led others in worship.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents Whalon and Maryemma, as well as his siblings Donald, James, Alethia, Lendoris, Rudolph, and Sylvester.
Richard is survived by his siblings John Lee, Ada Mae, Annette, Andre (Nicky), and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends, who he leaves with these words: "Lo, I am with you, always." (Matthew 28:20).
