Reuben Emanuel Headley, affectionately known as "Papi" was born on December 5, 1919 in Westmoreland, Jamaica, to the late Ursula Galloway and Percival Headley. Reuben was the eldest of eight children. Reuben completed his earthly journey on July 10, 2020 peacefully surrounded by his family at home after a short illness. He was preceded in death by his wife Euvine, daughter Cherry, Brothers Wilburn, Alfred, Rudolph, Walford, Ivan and Sister Daphne.
Reuben received his early education in Bethel Town Elementary School, Jamaica. He worked as a carpenter for many years in Jamaica. After working at Flowers Contracting Company, he migrated to Delaware in 1969 where he was employed at Gross Lighting Center until his retirement.
Reuben was an extraordinary husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law and a loyal friend to many. He had a wry sense of humor, hearty laugh, boundless compassion and a remarkable ability to fix anything around the house and for others. He played a significant role in his grandson Sean's life. Their relationship was remarkable! They loved each other in an amazing way.
Reuben was an avid bike rider. In his later years he enjoyed watching gospel TV every Sunday evening. He also loved watching baseball (Phillies), visiting with his good friends, and watching the World News.
Reuben married Euvine in 1957. They were blessed with a son Delroy and a daughter Audrey. He also parented many of his siblings' children as well as other children. It was not unusual that he and Euvine would often have young people in their home for one reason or another. It's often said by his family members that, "he carried many on his shoulders" with much love. He cared deeply and worried about his family all the time. He will be remembered for his emotional generosity and a big heart.
Reuben reaffirmed his acceptance of the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and since that time he was preoccupied with wanting to see Jesus.
Reuben leaves to cherish his memory, children Herman Headley (Cleola), Delroy Headley, and Audrey King (Raymond), sister Dorcas Quamina, New York, five grandchildren, six great-grand children and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
We thank God for the long time - greater than three-scores and ten years - that he allowed him to be with us. Get your rest now Papi! You've fought a good fight, you've finished the course, and you've kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for you a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give him at that day: and not to him only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
