Reuben "Doc" Henry Jr.

January 13, 1932 — January 3, 2022

Reuben Henry, affectionally known as "Doc" was born on January 13, 1932, in Mobile, Alabama. He received his heavenly wings on Monday, January 3, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Doc was the oldest of seven children born to the late Reuben and Eliza T. Henry. His brother Calvin E. Henry preceded him in death. Doc earned his education in Alabama attending and graduating in 1949 from the boarding school, Wilcox County Training School in Miller Ferry, Alabama.

Doc left Alabama State in 1952 to pursue a career with the DuPont Chemical Company, in Wilmington, Delaware. Later Doc enlisted in the U.S. Airforce and received an honorary discharge. While in the Airforce, Doc sang with the group known as "The Biggster" performing, traveling internationally, and winning numerous talent shows.

He returned to Delaware in 1956 and rejoined DuPont retiring after forty-plus years in upper management. Doc was also a successful entrepreneur partnering with the Smiths and opening C&D Smoke Shop & Sepia Cleaners.

In addition, he organized" The Gospel Ambassadors" one of East Coasts' most popular gospel groups. They produced thirteen albums and most made the top 100 on the music charts.

Doc was a loving husband to Theresa sharing fifty-three years of marriage. Those who knew Doc knew he loved working with his hands and building things. Doc enjoyed all sports, he also enjoyed watching channel 28 on Sundays, but one of his favorite things was picking up his grandchildren every day.

Doc became a member of Ezion Fair Baptist Church in 1962 and after forty-three years was installed as an Elder. During his illness, Doc would tell Tammy to remind Theresa to pay his tithes. When it came to food, he enjoyed everything his wife cooked, but he especially enjoyed his sister-in-law Stacy's sweet potato pie.
