Nichelle Denise Sparrow-Bowden

Nichelle Denise Sparrow-Bowden was born June 29,1969 in Wilmington, Delaware to Venita M. Sparrow and Brian Jones (step-father). She transitioned to her final resting place on February 16, 2024 in Newark, Delaware.

Nichelle “Chelle” as she was affectionately known, received her education in Delaware public schools. She graduated from John Dickinson High School in 1987. She also studied business at Wilmington University. Nichelle began her career at AIG where she worked for several years as a Payroll Supervisor. She was currently employed with Conde’ Nast where she spent the last 10 years in her position as a Payroll Specialist.

Nichelle met the love of her life, Samuel L. Bowden, “Mr. Man” as she called him, in 1988 where they both worked at Chase Manhattan Bank. They married on May 4, 1991 and they have spent the last 33 years loving and supporting each other in every way.

Nichelle was a faithful member of Church of God and Saints of Christ. She wore many hats in life, with her family and her church community. She and her husband acted as care-giver to her grandmother. “Nichelle CreativelyBlessed Bowden” as she was also known, because she loved to plan events and create elaborate and beautiful displays and decorations for private events as well as events for her church. She was incredibly talented in that way. Nichelle’s favorite food without a doubt, was crabs. She looked forward to helping to organize the church fundraiser for the annual crab fest.

Nichelle was always willing to help anyone in need. She volunteered her time to help feed the homeless during the holidays and she organized turkey drives at her church. She served as Chairperson of the local Trustee board, sick and shut-in committee and the building fund and charitable committee at Church of Saints of Christ.

Nichelle was preceded in death by her Mother in-law Carrie L. Bowden, grandfather Frank G. Sparrow, Paternal grandparents Doris Heard and Linwood Jones and great grandparents James T. Paynter and Blanche M. Paynter.

Nichelle is survived by her loving husband Samuel L. Bowden, her nephews who she raised as her own, Ta Nahaj Sparrow and Jai Thomas, parents Venita Sparrow, Brian Jones (step-father), sister Latoya Sparrow (Lamar Patterson), Grandmother Bernita M. Sparrow, God children Jackie “Nichelle” Buford and Johnathan Buford and a host of other God children, nieces/nephews, aunts/uncles and cousins. Two special friends Valerie Edward and Dollicia Cooper.
