Nancy Jane Hall

October 18, 1942 — June 21, 2020

On Sunday, June 21, 2020, Nancy J. Hall transitioned peacefully from this life to eternity in her home shared with Isaiah Hall to whom she united in Holy Matrimony October 10, 1985. Nancy, seventy-seven years young was born on October 18, 1942 in Lumpkin, Georgia to the late Wavie Gibson, Sr. and Cora Lee Massey Gibson.

Nancy affectionately known as Honey, Mom, Mommy, Big-Bootie, Jane, Mother-n-law, Grannie, Grand-mom, Aunt Nancy, Ms. Nancy, graduated Class of 1961 from the former Salisbury High School of Wicomico County, Maryland. She went on to earn a B.S. degree in home economics (with honors) from Cheyney University, Cheyney, Pennsylvania. Nancy was initiated into the Alpha Kapa Mu Honor Society in 1980.

Nancy was a lover of people and those closest to her quickly understood that her love was to be shared by many. Nancy accepted and valued her life's purpose, which she demonstrated through her life's works. She was employed by, the Chester Upland School District and the Red Clay School District as a Substitute Teacher. Nancy later worked as a Teacher for Job Corp of Rising Sun, Maryland. Most recently, she worked as a House Manager for Martin Luther Homes of Delaware for thirteen years. However, one of Nancy's single most important roles was that of homemaker, and she did it well caring and nurturing her children while filling their bellies with some of the best vittles this side of the Mississippi and beyond. She truly made her house a home.

Nancy had a heart big enough to fill any room and her smile (oh my goodness that smile) would radiate like a beacon of light guiding you to grace. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Nancy was quite the conversationalist; she enjoyed her tea and was careful not to spill it if you know what I mean. Whenever blessed by her presence she always came prepared to listen, love, and laugh. Nancy had a way of making you feel like you were the single most important person in her life. She was a fixer and the keeper of secrets. Her words so full of passion and kindness made the difference touching the hearts and souls of so many young and old.

Nancy accepted Christ as her personal savior and she was truly a caring woman of God. She leaves a legacy of wisdom, strength and love that will forever live in the hearts of: her beloved husband Isaiah Hall of Wilmington, Delaware; her son, Joseph Gibson (Vicki) of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina; her daughter, Devora Frisby (Francis, Jr.) of New Castle, Delaware; her son, Mark Thurmon, Sr. (Kista) of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Felicia Osara of Newark, Delaware; two step sons Howard Hall, of Spanish Town, Jamaica and Courtney Hall of Delaware; step-daughter Charmane Hall-Brown of Spanish Town, Jamaica; two brothers, Wavie Gibson, Jr. of Salisbury, Maryland, Jerry Gibson, Sr. (Cora) of Alexandria, Louisiana; two sisters, Dollie Hunter of Fruitland, Maryland; Rebecca Palmer (Roland Sr.) of Fruitland, Maryland; fifteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Wavie and Cora Lee Gibson, Nancy was preceded in death by her daughter, April Manuel; her grandson, Myles Westly Thurmon; two sisters, Lucille Thompson and Cora Mitchell; one brother, Prince Gibson, Sr.; and one former husband, Grealy L. Thurmon.
