Mother Pearlie Mae Smith

Pearlie Mae Wiggins Smith was born September 30, 1931, in Halifax County, North Carolina.

Pearlie peacefully departed this life at Christiana Medical Center on August 15, 2016, surrounded by her loving husband, Clarence "Smitty" Smith, and sons.


Pearlie the daughter of the late Willie Haywood Wiggins and Josephine Lynch Wiggins, Pearlie was one of four children: W. Roger Wiggins and Wilma H. McWilliams (who survive her); and Ozetta D. McWilliams (deceased).


Pearlie received her education in Enfield, North Carolina. She met and was united in Holy Matrimony to Clarence "Smitty" Smith in Enfield, North Carolina December 25, 1951. From this union four sons were born: Clinton, Stanley (deceased), Clayton and Aaron.
Affectionately known as "Nanny" to many, she worked as an in-home day care provider for many years. She enjoyed praising the Lord, gospel music, and working in her garden, which produced a bounty of fruit and vegetables that she shared with everyone.


Pearlie was a member of Bethel Pentecostal Church for over 40 years. Pearlie Mae was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and Christian woman. She loved family gatherings. he always had room at her kitchen table for you to sit and share a meal.

Pearlie's memory will be cherished and remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her, especially her loving and devoted husband of 65 years: Clarence "Smitty" Smith; 3 sons: Clinton , Clayton, and Aaron; one brother W. Roger Wiggins (Greensboro, NC) one sister Wilma H. McWilliams (Enfield, NC); three daughter-in laws: Neysa Gaines Smith, Karen Carnes Smith, and Lynn Boyd-Smith; one sister-in law Mildred Alston Wiggins; one brother-in law, Melito McWilliams; 6 Grand Children: Clayton A. Smith Jr. (CJ), Cameron C. Smith, Kacey M. Smith, Whitney J. Smith, Lasharrette (Nikki) N. Robinson and Aaron Smith, Jr. ; her 4 great-grandchildren; special niece: Carla McWilliams; neices, nephews, great nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and other relatives and friends.
