Mittie A. Tucker

August 29, 1939 — May 26, 2021

Mittie Ann (Drewry) Tucker was the first child of James L. Drewry and
Annie B. (Williams) Drewry, born on August 29th, 1939 in Greensville
County, Emporia, VA. She began elementary school in Adams Grove, VA.
The family migrated to New York City in 1950, and Mittie finished her
educational studies there, obtaining a commercial diploma from the
Girls' High School in Brooklyn, NY in June 1958. After graduation,
Mittie held a variety of jobs including working as a receptionist at a
probation office and providing clerical work at a bank. Throughout her
life, she was an avid reader and loved using her expansive vocabulary
to win at her favorite game, Scrabble. Mittie also enjoyed cooking,
and in her earlier years, she loved to dance.

As the first-born of 13 children, Mittie understood the importance of
being there for her siblings. Growing up, she was so close to her two
eldest sisters Katherine and Phyllis that they were referred to as
"The Three Musketeers". Later in life, she followed in the footsteps
of her parents and sisters and left New York City for Delaware, thus
allowing the family to be closer together in her final years.

Mittie met the love of her life Alexander Tucker in Brooklyn, NY and
they raised 6 children together. The family loved spending time with
each other, whether it was playing board games such as Family Feud and
Monopoly, or gathering for the annual barbecue in August where the
summer birthdays were celebrated. Holidays were also very special, and
as the family grew to include grandchildren and great-grandchildren,
Mittie thoroughly enjoyed being surrounded by her loved ones on
Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Raised in a religious family, Mittie had a strong love of church. She
first received the gift of the Holy Ghost at Greater Bibleway Temple
in Brooklyn, New York. Prior to her death, Mittie was a member of
Greater Emmanuel Temple Church in Kennett Square, PA, where her
Pastors were Bishop William Cramer and Elder Wayne Glasgow. She was a
devoted Bible Study attendee, and served on the Missionary Board.
Throughout her church life, Mittie always sang in the choir, and the
people in church loved to hear her sing. Her favorite gospel song was
"Telephone to Glory".

Mittie passed away on May 26th, 2021 at the age of 81. Left behind to
celebrate her life are her children David (Lois), Deborah (William
Butch) Williams, Sharon, and Kawana (Maurice) Stanley. She will be
lovingly remembered by her grandchildren David Jr., Destinee, Diondre,
William, Marquita, Shanita (Nathaniel), DaShawn, Alana, Elijah,
Denise, Sheena, Shanika, Maurice Jr., Tayshaun, Shaunise, Donald,
Anthony (Domawa), and Antoine (Sara), as well as her 18
great-grandchildren. Her memory will be fondly cherished by her
siblings Katherine Drewry (Carlos) Perez, Phyllis Drewry (Daniel,
deceased) Devan, Anna Louise Drewry (Clyde, deceased) Key, and Timothy
Drewry. In addition, she is survived by her uncle William George
Drewry.

Mittie was preceded in death by her parents James and Annie, her
siblings Ralph Emerson, George Thomas, Ruth Anita, Lucille, Jack,
James, Tommy, and Erlene, her husband Alexander, and her children
Regina, Denise, and Athena. We pray that she is resting in eternal
peace with her loved ones once again. Previous Events
