Mildred Scudder

January 6, 1938 — January 10, 2021

Mildred J. Scudder was born January 6, 1938, in Passaic, New Jersey. Daughter of the late Ida Bradshaw
Johnson and George E. Johnson, Mildred departed this life under the peaceful hand of the Lord on
Sunday, January 10, 2021, with her son and granddaughter at her bedside.
Mildred received her education in the Passaic New Jersey School System, graduating from Passaic High
School in the Class of 1955. Mildred was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late John C. Scudder, also of
Passaic, in 1962. They relocated to New Castle, Delaware to pursue employment opportunities.
Mildred was employed as the Chief Administrator of the Service Department of IBM Corporation-
Wilmington, DE. She was an award-winning employee for over 30 years until her retirement in 1993.
As a child and young adult, Mildred attended Bethel AME Church of Passaic, New Jersey. Later in life she
joined and faithfully attended Bethel AME Church-Wilmington, DE under the pastoral leadership of Rev.
Dr. Silvester S. Beaman. She loved family gatherings, traveling, and enjoying the company of friends,
both young and mature. She looked forward to attending church services and becoming a part of the
Missions In Motion Senior Ministry.
For all who knew her, they would encounter her infectious smile and personality.
Mildred was preceded in death by her father, George E. Johnson; mother, Ida Johnson; sister, Georgia-
Mae Johnson, and brothers, Otis Johnson, Samuel Johnson, Hosea (Pat) Johnson, and Luther (Newt)
Johnson.
Mildred leaves to cherish her memories her only son John (Greg) Scudder, granddaughter Tynesha
Starkey(Corey), three great-grandchildren Elijah, Arianna, and Caleb; Sister in Love Claudette(Claudia)
Johnson; Long- time friends Shirley Newton and Ruth Gray; along with her nieces and nephews whom
she loved dearly, beloved cousins, church family and devoted friends..
