Michael J. Canada was born to the late Joe & Zetta Canada, March 4 1954, in St Johns Hospital, Queens,NY. Michael was one of five siblings. Two of which preceded him in death, Mary Canada and Jerline Headley.
Michael was raised in Queensbridge, NY where he was educated in the NYC Public school system. Where he attended PS 76, JHS 204, and Graduated from Long Island City High School
Michael held various jobs within the commercial Banking Institution in Long Island and Queens borough branches where his love and passion for building computers initially began and grew.
In 1984 Michael became employed with the Metropolitan Transit Authority in New York City. He was proud to serve as a Bus Operator and passengers absolutely loved him for his efficiency and jovial attitude. He was well respected and gave 25 years of service, working out of the Jamaica Bus Depot in Queens, NY.He remained loyal to his job until he officially retired in 2009.
In 1996 ,He was named The Illustrious 33rd Degree Michael Canada from the King David Lodge No.9 Ancient Free and Accepted Mason in Brooklyn NY.
Michael’s personality was bold, outspoken, loud , always known as the “loud mouth” of the party. Often you heard Mike before you saw him, as he loved to showcase his skills by rapping, MC skills, or teaching family history. He was literally the family tree, he connected each branch on the tree. He loved family gatherings especially family cookouts & reunions. He loved to travel the world and took cruises as often as he could. His personality allowed him to talk to any and everybody from all walks of life. There isn’t a place he traveled to where he didn’t leave a lasting impression.
Michael was a devoted Father who made sure his baby girl received the best in life.He was the epitome of what it means to be an amazing Father.
Michael enjoyed many pastimes, he was a music aficionado and was known to rock the juke boxes wherever he would go. He always had “Oldies but Goodies” in the rotation. Mike loved the responses he’d received at some of his selections. His knowledge of music was extremely vast; he could recite the song and sing all the lyrics. Disco music kept him moving and dancing. You know when you heard “JAM ON THE GROOVE” you would get a live MC performance. In his voice YEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH BABY TAKING YOU BACK TO THE BLACK WAX DOING IT TWICE AS NICE AS SUGAR AND SPICE AS WE BRING UP THE BABY TO THE PLACE TO BE……YOU’RE ROCKING RIGHT NOW WITH THE MAN KNOWN AS MIKEYYYYYYYYY HOLA HOLA HOLA LETS GO TO WORK YALLLLLL HUTTTTTTTTTTT!
After relocating to Delaware in 2010, Michael was known as the “Mayor” in his community and The Great Debater. He spent his leisure time couponing and shopping for a good deal. He spent most of his time playing solitaire while watching tv with the loudest surround sound. He was a sports fanatic,following football,basketball ,and baseball.Michael enjoyed entertaining in his basement and taking you down memory lane showing pictures of every family member that ever existed.
Secretly Michael fought a battle with cancer. In 2023 his illness progressed and he transitioned from this life in his sleep and is no longer in pain; and now at peace.
Michael is survived by his faithful devoted Wife Marcia Canada.He leaves to mourn his Daughters Cree Canada and Tanaka Gibson. His siblings Louise Canada and Anthony Canada. Six grandchildren, Eight great grands. A host of nieces, nephews and cousins too numerous to name.
