Mary W. Gripper

Mary W. Gripper, age 94, of Newark, DE passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Heartland Hospice House. She was born in Eastover, SC on September 13, 1913, to Sylvester and Bessie Weston. Shortly after her birth the family moved to Columbia, SC. She was the oldest of five children, including Sue, Rebecca, Henry and a baby brother who died as an infant. At 18, Mary met Melvin Gripper who was from Elgin, SC. Melvin and Mary left South Carolina enroute to Brooklyn, New York with several of Melvin's siblings. There they were married and raised a family, 2 daughters Mary Ellen and Patricia Eloise. Melvin and Mary were married for over 40 years, before his untimely death in 197. Mary Gripper , is survived by her loving daughters Mary with whom she resided, with her husband Roger Crawford of Newark, DE and Patricia with husband Walter Leaphart of Evanston, IL. Also by her grandchildren Andy, Jackie, Mona, Herb, Freddie, Melissa, Jeffrey, Jenny, Leon, Chennita, and Aminah, along with great grand children, and a host of family members.
