Marlene Wilson- Owens was born on June 11, 1950, in Wilmington Delaware, to Elease Marian Haile and Frederick Flemming Wilson JR. She departed this life on February 13, 2024. Leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories, Marlene was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend; whose impact touched the lives of many.
Marlene attended Howard High School of Technology in Wilmington Delaware. Upon graduating high school, she began working at Barley Mills Plaza as a Custodian. Later, she pursued her dream and started her own cleaning service “If you want it Clean call Marlene.” Marlene loved caring for children which prompted her to begin a career in childcare. She owned and operated “Let ‘Em Shine” Daycare where she cared for countless children in her home and later expanded to a childcare center in Wilmington where she continued to love and nurture children.
Marlene received her Associate’s Degree in Christian Theology from Rainbow Grace Bible College October 24, 2015, in New Castle, Delaware. Marlene enjoyed reading her bible, quilting, sewing, spending time with her grandchildren, and talking on the phone with family and friends. Marlene would go into prayer at any given time and
anywhere. Marlene was a source of inspiration. She had so many friends and was a well-loved member of the community. Marlene had an urgent need to improve herself and the people around her, she always had a purpose and a mission in life. She had a strong sense of empathy, compassion, and care; she felt the emotions of others and graciously supported them through prayer.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents Elease Haile and Frederick Wilson JR, Husbands Lee Owens and Frederick Goldsborough, brother Frederick Wilson III, son Damon (Baby Boo) Hancock, stepson Myron Williams, and daughter in law Mary Elizabeth Wilson.
Marlene is survived by her loving sons and daughter in law; Shannon Wilson and David and Tia Hancock, two stepdaughters Stacy Chambers and Rosalyn Robertson, a brother Michael Wilson and her sister-in-law Linda Wilson. She is also survived by nine grandchildren Tysheik and Kwame Covington, Chloe Cole - Wilson, Deakwon, David, Damon, and Davon Hancock, Tamen Walker, and Chavonte Blake. Three great grandchildren Elyse Abdul - Haqq, Victor Clark, and Saéed Hancock. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
