Marie Blakeney, the daughter of the late Ruby Lee Jackson and Andrew G. Jackson was born on April 4, 1949 in Wilmington, Delaware. She was the eldest of eight children.
She received her early education through the public school system of Wilmington, Delaware. She graduated from Wilmington high school in 1970.
Marie loved her family. The Lord blessed her with four beautiful children, Antoinette, Jermaine, Jabar, and Winter. She was formerly married to Willie Mc Reynolds in 1972. Marie joined Jason Blakeney Jr. in holy matrimony in 1998 and they loved and enjoyed each other throughout their 35 years together. To this union Marie gained four bonus children; Clarinda, Jason, Nicole, and Jania.
She accepted Christ and joined Latter Day Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Wayne S. Miles. She was a member of the Latter Day Chorus and the Kitchen Committee where her culinary skills were the highlight of our Annual Deacon's Auxiliary Breakfast. Without a doubt, no one prepares "scrambled eggs" with the love of Sister Marie. She enjoyed singing in the choir. A few of her favorite songs to sing were "Jesus Promised Me A Home Over There, When I see Jesus, and The Lord's Prayer."
Marie worked as a dietary aide for many years. At her time of retirement she worked for Foulk Manor South for over 20 years. She later decided to continue her work profession and worked at Foulk Manor North. She loved to cook and if you were ever hungry when stopping by the house she'd whip up a meal in 5-10 minutes. It was an ongoing joke of how fast she was in the kitchen.
Her favorite hobby was enjoying her family. The time she spent with her grandkids would make her day. Marie enjoyed reading, cracking jokes, coloring, playing cards and crossword puzzles. She was a member of the Tri State Birthday Club for a number of years. Her favorite shows were mysteries, Little House on the Prairie, and Sanford and Son. She'd laugh as if it was her first time watching. Nothing would get her more excited than her Philadelphia Eagles. She loved their song and would chant E-A-G-L-E-S at the top of her lungs. She enjoyed music but mostly loved Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, and Donna Summer. On game night Monopoly was her thing and could play for hours. She owned it and had her own set of rules which made it very competitive. Marie enjoyed her outings. It was the perfect opportunity for her to get nicely dressed and enjoy herself. You may not have known which look she'd show up with, only her being confident and beautiful.
Marie was affectionately known as Re Re by friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby L. Jackson and Andrew G. Jackson; Son, Jabar; Sister, Zetta White; brothers, Andrew, Gerald, and Stanley Jackson.
Re Re made her transition on Friday, August 5, 2022 peacefully in her home.
