Marcus Chester Barkley was born on December 22, 1961, in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Richard
“Dicky” Boardley and Ella Mae Barkley. He passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Christiana
Care Wilmington Hospital.
Marcus was a proud graduate of Howard High School, and after graduation attended Goldey-Beacom
College. Marcus was also a faithful member of New Destiny Fellowship. Marcus lived a life marked by
grace, precision, and an eye for detail, qualities that defined both his professional and personal life.
Marcus spent many years in the retail industry, where he became known not only for his business
acumen but also for his meticulous attention to clothing. He believed that how one presented oneself
was a reflection of care, respect and pride. This belief shone through and in his work, where he earned
the admiration of both colleagues, clients and friends alike for his dedication to style and quality.
Outside of work, Marcus was a man of class. His wardrobe was a testament to his taste, and he was
often sought for advice on fashion and presentation. His family and friends fondly remember his precise
way of dressing, his sharp eye for color coordination, and the joy he took in looking his best, no matter
the situation or occasion.
Though his love for fashion was evident, it was his love for his family and friends that truly defined him.
He was a devoted father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, always putting the people he loved first and
offering them guidance, love, and unwavering support.
Marcus is survived by his wife, Sree, his son Marcus C. Barkley II and daughter, Bella-Angel Suzzette
Bomar; stepchildren, TG, Zion, Marlise and Calvin, his much-loved nephew, Ernest Thomas; three sisters,
Carla Manlove, Shirley Manlove and Shiela Thomas; two brothers Gary Manlove and Brian Manlove both
deceased, Brother and best friend Howard Barnes and his East Side Crew (9 th Street). Devoted friends,
Dawn Pierce, Margo Carr, and Kathy West, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He
will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his legacy of style, grace, and care will live on in those
whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace, dressed in eternal grace.
