Madeline Naomi White Roy, age 88, of Newark, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2014, after a life of grace, dignity, humor, and class. Madeline was born on March 15, 1926 to the late Clarence and late Hannah White in rural Pennsylvania, eventually moving to Newark, Delaware at the age of 14. She attended Howard High School in Wilmington where she met the love of her life Elwood S. Roy Sr., who she would eventually marry and remain with for 57 years. She and "Puddy" raised their six children and became (and remained) pillars of Newark's close-knit community, working with various civil rights and church related organizations. Madeline was employed with Avon from the late 1970s until the late 1980s, being recognized on numerous occasions for being an exemplary employee. "Aunt Mac", as she was affectionately called by family and extended family members, enjoyed quiet time gardening, listening to gospel music, watching baseball, basketball and football, and spending time with those she loved. She is survived by her daughters Beverly and her husband, Ken McCollister, Victoria Hubbard, and Marilyn and her husband Jerome Jackson Sr.; her sons James and his wife Dale Roy, and Douglas Roy. Her granddaughters Tanlynne "Toi" Word and her fianc Charles Porter, Tamika Hubbard, Lakeshia Roy, Tairen "Tei" McCollister (who shared the same birthday with her), Tiyona "Tyi" McCollister, Jerome Jackson Jr., and Katina Burnette and her husband Eric, and LaMara Redden, her great grandchildren Taylin Minor, Liam McCollister, Katrice, Kai, Katie, and Kace Burnette, and Kennae Lloyd. Her godchildren Alice Dorsey, Patricia Wilson Aden, Vicky and Valerie Evans, and Ricky Williams. In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 57 years Elwood "Puddy" S. Roy Sr., her son Elwood "Butchie" S. Roy Jr., her brother Prince White, sister Frances Davis, great grandsons Zoviaire and Zaire Proctor, Chance Porter, and life long best friend Myrtle "Mommy Myrt" Watson. Aunt Mac, was also mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to countless others and will truly be missed by all those she touched and loved. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Rev.
