Leona L. Washington was born September 8, 1945, in Wilmington Delaware. Daughter of the late Lorraine Elmore and James Wilson, She departed this life peacefully at home on January 6, 2021. Leona received her education at Warner Jr. High; where she was affectionately known as Sophia by family and friends for her sportsmanship and academic achievements in softball. In addition to calling Wilmington home, she lived most of her life in the community of Belvedere with her beloved Aunt and Uncle Jerry and Carrie Fennell. Leona attended Simpson United Methodist Church and in later years attended Mount Ezon Baptist Church. Leona met and fell in love with the late Walter P. Washington within this union having five wonderful children. Leona was a dedicated employee of General Motors were she retired after 25 years of service. She was a faithful and dedicated charitable member of St Jude's Hospital for Children, Shriners Hospital and the Wounded Warrior Project. Many of us will remember her for her infectious laugh, her electric dance skills and being the life of the party. Leona was preceded in death by her mother Lorrain Elmore, father James Wilson, brother William T. Elmore and great grandson William Haile. Leona leaves to cherish her memories her children.
