Lennox Fitzgerald Nembhard, affectionately known as "Len" or "Chicken Hawk," was born on October 9, 1966, in Clarendon, Jamaica, to Merlon Francis and the late Felix Nembhard. On November 20, 2024, Len departed this life, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of humor, strength, and love.
Len graduated from Kellits High School in Clarendon in 1984 and, in 1986, migrated to the United States in pursuit of a better life. His journey began with a job at Kid Shelleen's restaurant in Trolley Square. Len later served the City of Wilmington's, Public Works Department, Sanitation Unit for 27 years, before retiring due to health challenges. Beyond his formal work, Len was a skilled handyman, engaging in freelance projects and home improvements.
Known for his vibrant personality and comedic nature, Len brought laughter to every situation. A self-proclaimed comedian, he often said, "Don't tell me about your business because I can't keep any secrets." His nickname, Chicken Hawk, epitomized his go-getter attitude and sharp wit. Len had a passion for music and was an accomplished DJ who ruled the sound scene with his sound system, Hawk High Power. A gifted dancer and exceptional cook, Len loved creating delicious meals and sharing his kitchen wisdom with others.
Len’s passing leaves an indescribable void, but we take comfort knowing he is now free from suffering. His life was one of courage, strength, and unyielding determination, and today, we celebrate his legacy.
He is preceded in death by his father, Felix Nembhard.
Len leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Cherylene Tyre-Nembhard, sons, Lavar, Lennox Jr., and Leighton Nembhard, mother, Merlon Francis, sister; Donna Nembhard, brothers; Wayne, Duwayne, Adrian, Derick, Byron, and Leighton (Junior), two loving dedicated aunts, Janice, Marlene, and his cousin Nadine Lindsay, and Maureen Richards, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Len will always be remembered as jovial, loving, and free-spirited. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though we grieve his absence, we honor his life and find solace in the memories of his laughter, strength, and love.
Rest in peace, Len. You are deeply loved and will never be forgotten.
