Latanya C. Redden-Whittaker

LaTanya C. Redden-Whittaker was born on February 6, 1971, in Wilmington, Delaware, to the late Joe Louis Redden and Dorothy Redden. It is with great sorrow the family announces her passing away. She went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware at the age of 49.

LaTanya (Chantel) received her early childhood education from Cool Spring Elementary School. She graduated from Alexis I. DuPont High School. After School, she pursued a career in early childhood development and implemented creative programs suitable for preschool children at Lessons Learned Daycare. Although she later became a private duty nurse for Home Care Inc. of Wilmington, Delaware, she never lost her passion for the overall well-being of children.

Chantel was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church and was a faithful member from childhood through most of her adult life prior to becoming a faithful member of Miracle Temple in Wilmington, DE. She loved the Lord and could be found always singing songs of worship - she had such a beautiful voice! She dedicated her life volunteering and serving; living by Matthew 25: 35-45, always visiting the sick and feeding the hungry. That was Chantel's mission. You would always see her walking everywhere pushing her cart, picking up clothing, food, you name it and dropping it off to whomever needed it. She volunteered at St. Patrick's Center for many years and often developed lasting friendships from encounters there.

Chantel loved to cook and bake - and was thought to be the reigning champion out of her sisters who came close to cooking just like their mother. She loved her family very much. She would grab them by the hand to pray with them, especially after drenching them with blessed oil - often saying "It's already done". She was the epidemy of a prayer warrior. She had a tremendous love for her girls & her grandchildren - to the moon and back she would always say to them and affectionately called her eldest grandson - her Hamburger and the younger two her French fries! She traveled to various senior centers with her daughters and nieces praise dancing, visiting the sick and feeding the homeless.

Chantel was preceded in death by her father, Joe Louis Redden and husband Michael Booker.

Chantel was married to Michael Booker and from this union two daughters, Alexis Redden Booker Amaro, son-in-law, Alex Amaro and Jaleasa Earl Booker.

Chantel is survived by her husband, Kevin Whittaker and from this union a daughter, Tavion Whittaker, mother, Dorothy Redden, sisters, Clydette L. Redden, and Aretha R. Woodly, brother-in-law, Garry Woodly, brothers, Terrance G. Redden, sister-in-law, Sharon Redden, Joe A. Redden, and Turhan L. Redden, grandchildren, Amiyan Michael Booker, Arkyis Lee Younger and Kayson Earl Younger and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
