Larry Edwin Waters, Sr. lovingly known as Skipper, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. Larry was born in Delaware on July 7, 1952 to the late Ida Waters and Manuel Santiago. He grew up in Wilmington. In his teenage years, he moved to New York, where he attended and graduated from high school. He met his wife, Althea, in New York. From there, they grew their wonderful family with eldest son, Brian, and twins, Katryna and Larry Jr. Larry remained close with his children throughout his life.
He returned to Delaware in 1998 and resided in Middletown. He started a job at Marriot Senior living as a maintenance worker. Later, he started his job as a custodian at the Appoquinimink School District. Larry eventually became the Chief Custodian of several schools receiving recognition and awards. His custodial career ended at Brick Mill Elementary School. In his later years, he drove students for the Middletown High School Twilight Program. He also coached youth basketball at the Boys and Girls Club and coached the Middletown Freshman Boys Basketball team for one year. He mentored many children who entered the doors of each school at which he worked. Larry was a former member of The Mens Choir at Trinty AME Church, where he served in different capacities. In his free time, Larry enjoyed watching shows with his wife, and WWE with his grandson, Nathan Jr. Larry spent time with his devoted friend, Otis Henry, on outings throughout Delaware. He also attended local sports games with his longtime friend, Wilson Haman. Larry wants to be remembered for the love he had for his family.
Larry has rejoined his late mother, Ida, his siblings, Claudine, Reuben (Sonny), Warner, Helen, Ruth Ann, his close cousin, Kay Daniels and his good friend, William Buie. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Althea, his children, Brian (Kaneshia) of Virginia, Katryna (Nathan Sr.) of Delaware, and Larry Jr. (Taylor) of New York and his grandchildren, Amari of Utah, Jordyn of Virginia, and Nathan, Jr. of Delaware. He also is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and in-laws.
