Laird A. Milburn

January 8, 1957 — February 6, 2008

Laird Amiel Milburn, the son of Elbert S. and Elizabeth Dupree Milburn, was born in Princeton, New Jersey on January 8, 1957. On Wednesday, February 6, 2008 he peacefully departed his earthly existence to join departed family members and Jesus forever. Doctors diagnosed Laird with Autism Spectrum Disorder around two years of age, when his parents noticed that he stopped talking and communicating. Despite this diagnosis, Laird was briefly enrolled in the Wilmington Public School system. Eventually, Laird received services from the Delaware Division of Disability Services. He was employed by Delaware Elwyn, Inc. from 1995 and worked in various positions including, Embassy Suites from 2001 - 2007. He also volunteered at Emily Bissell Hospital in their laundry room. Those who worked with Laird knew him as creative, hard-working, patient and having a beautiful disposition. Laird had many talents and interests including; drawing, printing, watching classic television shows, listening to music - his favorites being classic standards, big bands, and classic R&B. He could often be found watching classic cartoons on You Tube on his computer. Laird also loved to travel. He has traveled to the Bahamas with his brother, Barry and family and just this past September he traveled to Hawaii with support staff member, Yvette and her family. One of his favorite places to visit was New York - specifically Brooklyn - and he always looked forward to his annual summer and Christmas visits with his sister, Benita and nieces, Samantha and Danielle. Left to cherish his memory are: his brothers and sisters, Andrea Green, Elbert III (Tripp) Milburn, Barry Milburn, Sr., Benita Terry, and Charles Milburn; sister in-laws, Lorita and Tanya Milburn; aunts, Georgia Brown and Francis Dupree; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Laird was an amazing man who was truly loved by many and will be missed. Read Laird Milburn's Obituary and Guestbook on houseofwrightmortuary.com.
