Kelvin was the son of the late Henry and Hattie Mary (Harper) Hampton. He was educated in the Wilmington Public School System and a graduate of Howard High School. Over the years, Kilven held a variety of jobs until 10 years ago when he suffered a debilitation stroke. However, he did not let this deter him for volunteering at the Wilmington Hospital. He did his volunteer work so well that on April 8, 2008, he received a "Celebration of Life" award in appreciation for his exemplary service. He liked to dance, play baseball and tennis and walked everywhere. He also was a very faithful member of Tabernacle Full Gospel Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Kilven was predeceased by 3 brothers, James, Larry and Ralph; 2 sisters, Angie Lee Watts and Marie Hampton. He is survived by 3 daughters, Vernique and Karisha Coverdale and Larisha Banner; 2 brothers, Lionel and John; 5 sisters, Aline, Yvonne and Denise Hampton, Desiree Moore and Rochelle Allen-Brown; 3 sisters-in-law, Brenda, Patricia and Denise Hampton; 9 grandchildren; 4 special friends, Louis Davis, Karen Coverdale, Deborah Banner and Maude Brown and a host of nieces, nephew, cousins and other extended family members.
