Our beautiful Kayonne Mitchell-Redman departed this life on October 7, 2024 after a long and brave battle of illness. Born Kayonne Udonnopher Althea Ferguson to Heather Dawn Malcolm and Royston Ferguson on May 30, 1971 in the 9 Mile District of St. Ann, Jamaica, Kayonne came into this world as a proud daughter of the renowned and famous Malcolm family.
She was initially raised by her Aunt Ceta (Edna Malcolm Whilby), Uncle Bosey (Rupert Whilby) with her sister Shenette and their 7 children. It was a time that proved to be foundational, as it molded the heart and strength that Kayonne was known for all her life. She attended Stepney Elementary and High School before moving on to Abuttnott Gallimore High School. During those years she later worked at her cousin Bob Marley’s Foundation in 9 Mile alongside her cousin Richard Booker and her Aunt Cidy (Cedella Malcolm Marley-Booker).
She then came to the United States to stay with her Aunt Rose (who became her second mother), her Uncle Taddy (who became her second father),their children Michael, Zico, Earl, Chin, Tanya, and the rest of her immediate family. Kayonne was especially close with Michael, as the two were nicknamed the Twins by their Aunt Amy (Amy Malcolm Wallace).
Kayonne was determined to build a good life for herself in the United States and she achieved her goals. Later she welcomed her first daughter, Lateyanna, a moment that filled her with immense pride and joy. She then met the love of her life, her husband Ian Gladstone Redman, and they happily welcomed into this world their beautiful daughter Kamoya.
Kayonne’s warmth, kindness, and joy was felt by all those who knew her, and her ability to make others feel special was her strength. We will celebrate her remarkable life, faith and legacy at our Nine Night for Kayonne on Thursday October 31, 2024 at our Lady of Fatima Hall on 801 N Dupont Hwy, New Castle, DE 19720 and Viewing and Funeral on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at New Community Church/Grace Church at 116 West 41st Street, Wilmington, DE 19802.
