Karen Hugley

Karen Michelle. Hugley of New Castle, DE, passed away unexpectedly on January 13, 2023. She

was only 57 years old. Karen was born on January 30, 1965, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida to the

late James and Gertrude Hugley.

Karen graduated from Penns Grove High School in Penns Grove, New Jersey in 1983, then later

graduated from Bradford Business School as a Legal Secretary. Over the course of her life, she

worked at several law firms in Philadelphia, PA and Wilmington DE. Karen leaves to mourn her

work family of 15 years at Deasey Mahoney& Valentini. Karen loved meeting new people and

having detailed conversations as she traveled to and from work on the train. Karen had a love

for her one and only son whom she called Baa instead of Bobby. Karen enjoyed having facetime

conversations with her sisters and her nieces. Karen’s door was always open for anyone to

come by to sit and visit as her nephew Julius would often do. Karen loved and cherished her

grandson Dominic and was excited to see him earlier this month while she was in the hospital.

Karen is survived by her son Pablo (Bobby) Ortiz of New Castle DE, her grandson Dominic Ortiz

of Newark, Delaware; also, by her siblings Gregory Charms (Jane) of Westminster MD,

Jacqueline Young of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Sandra Hugley-Jeter of Spartanburg SC, and Andera

(Ann) Hugley of New Castle DE. Her special uncle George Gibson (Butch), her longtime best

friend Vanessa Sistrunk (Otis) of Swedesboro, NJ and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, the

class of 1983 and friends.
