Joyce Annette Mcpherson

January 23, 1958 — December 18, 2024

Joyce Annette Moore McPherson, affectionally known as Doll Baby but she often called herself “JAM”, was born on January 23, 1958, to the late John Everett Moore and Mary Henrietta (Garlick) Moore in King William, VA. She transitioned to eternal resting place on December 18, 2024, while doing what she loved to do best...relaxing and watching her favorite show Gunsmoke.

As a child, Doll Baby attended Mount Olive Baptist in Virginia and loved singing on the choir! Her favorite childhood games included hopscotch, marbles, dominoes, jacks, horseshoe, and card war. As a teenager, Doll did not miss a dance or a party. Doll was ornery as the youngest baby girl of fourteen siblings. She could always find herself in some kind of mischief. She was known for never backing down from a fight. She was the ultimate trash talker and used some of the funniest punch lines. Her favorite saying was “any way the wind blows is cool with me.” Doll was adamant about teaching her signature moves the “cold cock” and “uppercut” to her son and nephew.

Cooking was one of her favorite hobbies. Not a day would pass when she would not have a hot meal on the stove for her children. She was famous for her potato salad and chitterlings. Joyce was always asked to cook for family gatherings and church functions. Doll loved celebrating her birthday! She would cook all her favorite dishes and invite her friends and family over almost every year. Every January you could expect to hear her say, “I’m throwing me a birthday party, Chile.” If you knew Doll then you know she loved Westerns and Shoot ‘em ups! Another hobby of hers was playing board games with her children Hillary (Muffin) and Jimmie (Man).

Doll Baby was baptized at an early age and loved the Lord with all her heart. She was a God-fearing woman, and she poured these values into her children and those she loved. Doll relished in reading the word of God and listening to gospel. She was a member of the monthly prayer group called Deliverance Prayer Ministry for over 30 years. During her walk with Christ, Doll Baby was a member of Deliverance Evangelist Church, Be Ready Jesus is Coming Church, New Gethsemane United Church, and Holy Ghost and Fire Church of Deliverance where she was the founder and co-pastor alongside her husband Terance McPherson.

Joyce was joined in holy matrimony for 27 years to Terance “Shawn” McPherson. They enjoyed traveling, listening to the Word of God, Gospel Music, fellowshipping with church friends, and spending time with family.

Joyce was preceded in death by her siblings; Laura Francis Gaines, James Moore, Arthur Moore, Roy Moore, and Marion Moore, devoted niece; Lisa Mosley, and a grandson, Jimar C. Broadnax-Moore.
