Joseph S. Doughty

January 12, 1952 — December 15, 2023

Apostle Joseph Doughty was born on January 12, 1952, and with his loving and doting  daughters at his bedside, peaceably commended his spirit to Yahweh on December 15, 2023. We will always cherish the memories of his life with us, his legacy of faith, his smile, his caring heart and the way he embraced the needs of his family.

Growing up in NYC, he was the ‘ride and die’ for his family. He was the one that was there when you needed someone to have your back. As a teenager, It was a new and exciting time in his life when he met and won the heart of the feisty, and hard to get Delores Holder and married her on July 9, 1972. This began the legacy of ‘Stanley and Delores’ as everyone saw them as one. They ministered together with ‘helps’ for church, family and friends – visiting, cleaning, decorating amongst many other things. In sickness and in health he was there with his wife for nearly 50 years until Yah called her home. Apostle Joseph was also a ‘Girl Dad’, and he loved his girls. They were everything to him. He was a father in the truest sense. He served 15 years in the US Army in the field of communications with an extended tour in

Germany before retiring with honorable service in 1994. He returned with his family to Dover Delaware to continue his life as a full-time soldier in Yah’s Army. He was ordained Pastor, ministering into the lives of individuals, families and the congregation at large. In so doing, he was proven and ordained an Apostle by his Overseer and Uncle whom he loved dearly. Apostle founded and started two ministries one of which is, ‘The True Believers’ a mentoring program for young men fostering true faith values and instilling the principles of ‘A Yah Man’. The other, ‘The New Hope Foundation’ rose from his vision of unity; and, as the founder, he created a platform for believers to collectively and purposefully engage in fellowship and worship. He was a humble soul and matter-of-factly, very giving and a man of few words. However, when he spoke, you listened – it was with wisdom and authority. It was important to him that his girls also continue to believe in Yah throughout his sickness. He would say, “I will see you again. I am at peace. I am not afraid.”

Apostle is predeceased by his wife Delores Doughty, Father and Mother, John and Dorothy Doughty, and brother, John Doughty. He and leaves to mourn, His daughters Lisa D. Doughty (Andre Tabron), and Theresa J. Doughty; Granddaughters: Te’Lisa Doughty-Giddins and Aaliyah Tabron; Siblings: Yvonne Gibson, Derrick Doughty, Eileen Pettit (Chester Pettit), David Doughty, Vincent Doughty, Naomi Boggs; One Aunt and Uncle; Three Brother-in-laws; One Sister-in-Law
