John E. Conway, 86, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at his home at the Lorelton Assisted Living Facility on December 11, 2024. Born on September 24th, 1938, in Middletown, DE, he was the son of the late Roy and Annie Conway.
John received his early education at Louis Reading School in Middletown, DE. Following his graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he honorably served his country, including a tour of duty during the Vietnam War. John later continued his service with the Delaware National Guard, where his military career spanned over three decades. Throughout his 34 years of dedicated service, John traveled the world, earning numerous commendations for his bravery and leadership. His unwavering commitment to his country and his selfless service inspired all who knew him. While serving in the military, John pursued his higher education, earning various degrees and accolades that reflected his deep commitment to learning and growth.
Following his distinguished military career, John continued to serve his community through involvement with various organizations, where he remained a trusted leader and advocate. In his personal life, John found joy in many hobbies and interests. He loved fishing, hunting, and participating in firearm activities. A true music enthusiast, he cherished jazz and gospel music. John was also an avid fan of cowboy and western television shows and a devoted supporter of the Minnesota Vikings.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Catherine Conway; his cherished daughter, Erica A. Conway; his parents, Roy and Annie Conway; his sister, Sophia Mason, and brother-in-law, Dean Mason.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and strength and is survived by his children: Lorenzo White Sr. (Angela White), Cynthia Bright-Carter (Anthony Carter Sr.), and Bradley Conway (Kelly). He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren: Lorenzo White Jr., Dequan Conway, Latosha White, Jaden Whitney, Isaiah Carter, Quinton Conway, Sean Williams, Lexi Williams, Jessica Boothe, and Melanie Moussa. His memory will also be cherished by his great-grandchildren: Lorenzo N. White, Liam Eaton, Aria Whitney, Adelynn Eaton, and Wisdom Carter.John is also survived by his siblings: Roy H. Conway (Ernell) of North Carolina, Doris Rose and Rudolph Conway of Pennsylvania, along with a host of extended family and dear friends who will miss him deeply.John’s life was marked by dedication, service, and love. He touched the hearts of many, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
