Jerry Marshall Peace

On November 6, 2022 God decided that he needed Jerry and, therefore, he passed away peacefully at his home in New Castle, Delaware surrounded by his loved ones. Jerry Marshall Peace was born on October 3, 1943 to William Burnette (Bun) and Betty Eva (Chavis) Peace in Stem, North Carolina. He was the fourth child out of six children. Jerry constantly talked about how he enjoyed being raised on a farm, and how chickens were his best friends, and helping with packing the tobacco house. He always talked about Sunday dinners after church, the food, baked goods, and all the visitors and family members that gathered around the table for Betty Eva’s biscuits.

After Jerry graduated from Mary Potter High School, he joined the U.S. Army on October 16, 1964 and served in the Vietnam War. He was extremely proud to serve his country. After serving three years and becoming wounded in Vietnam, he was honorably discharged, receiving several awards: Purple Heart, Expert Badge (Rifle), Letter of Appreciation, National Defense Service, Air Medal, and several other medals. After returning home from the war in 1967, he began working for the United States Postal Service where he worked as a mail carrier and later became a supervisor. He retired after serving 32 years of service and shortly started a part-time job working in the men’s suit department at Macy’s for five more years. He prided himself on looking dapper.

In 1967, Jerry met and married Mary E. Frazier in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Jerry and Mary went on to have two daughters, Nicole Sharif Frazier and Janeka Peace. They later moved to Willingboro, New Jersey in 1973. Jerry and Mary divorced in 1992 and Jerry relocated back to Philadelphia. Jerry later dated his long-term partner Cheryl Priest. In 2002, Jerry retired and spent his time traveling, fishing, shooting pool, and his favorite pastime, playing slots at the casinos, and most of all, he loved to watch sports. He was an avid Eagles fan.

Jerry was a wonderful son, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He loved his family tremendously. He always shared stories about his family and his upbringing in North Carolina. He was a wonderful provider, confidant, and role model. He was always gentle, kind, loving, super cool, had exquisite taste, and was a distinguished gentleman.

Jerry was preceded in death by William Burnette (Bun) Peace (father), Betty Eva (Chavis) Peace (mother), Moses Peace (brother), Dorothy Edmonds-Peace (sister), Eddie Augusta Peace (brother), and Michael A. Morian (son-in-law).

Jerry is survived by his two daughters Nicole Sharif Henderson and Janeka Peace; one son-in-law Linwood Henderson; his sister Mary E. Peace and brother William Peace; two granddaughters Aigner Keyouna Campbell and Roshanna Nekita Wickham; one grandson Zion Jaire Henderson; four bonus grandchildren Ivory Lee (Devyn), LaShana Smith, Kashif Henderson, and Brittney Scott; eight great-grandchildren; one goddaughter, Tisa Frazier; his loving niece Lafaya Peace; special nephews Michael Edmonds and Thomas (Tone Tone) Perrin; his best friend/brother Samuel Hodges, and a host of relatives and friends.
