Jeffrey Lynn Wooten was the sunshine born to the late Rufus and
Mattie Corene Wooten on a very cold day, February 12th, 1958. He quietly slipped
away from us on Friday, August 23rd, 2024 in the Chestnut Hill Lodge and
Rehabilitation Center, where he resided for the past two years.
Jeff was educated in Wilmington, where he attended Northeast Elementary School, Burnett Middle School. Jeff was a
graduate of P.S. DuPont High School class of 1976. He was excited when he was
accepted to Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina. Jeff studied at Shaw,
majoring in Business Management until 1978. After, matriculating at Shaw, he enlisted in the
United States Armed Forces. Jeff served in the military until the early 1980s.
Jeff was a great with his hands. When he returned to Delaware, he worked for quite
a few builders. He had a gift for construction work. Jeff would bring any idea to life.
Jeffrey from his youth was jovial and never lost that trait. Jeff's love for people landed him
employment with the Sunday Breakfast Mission and Sojourners Place. He loved to aide people battling from
some of life’s issues. He knew how to get them to a place of help.
Jeff relocated to Philadelphia for a change of scenery. There he completed some self-help programs and also received
certifications in office administration. These certifications allowed him to
become employed as a concierge representative at both Rittenhouse Plaza and Plaza Apartments Jenkintown. Jeff
loved the beauty of outdoors, which directed him to Parks & Recreations for the City
of Philadelphia as a seasonal worker. Also, learning how to use computers was one of Jeff's greatest achievements.
Jeffrey had a praying mother!!! So, he had to know Jesus or at least whole lot
about Him. Jeffrey was reared in Ebenezer Baptist Church. He served under a number of pastors Rev.
BP Bynum, Rev. Dr. Lewis Johnson and Pastor Gilbert Hamm, Sr. Jeffrey served Ebenezer in various capacities such as
Jr. Deacon, an usher, a vacation Bible school teacher, a junior missionary and
he sang on the Choir. In his youth, he traveled near and far singing. He enjoyed
all genres of music, especially quartet singing, groups from the 60s and
70s.
jeff was a diehard Eagles fan win or lose, he never switched up. He
wore his Green and White til the end. For fun, Jeff enjoyed a good game of
Backgammon, and he loved a card game or two. The “BROTHERS” would tell
you that he knew something about shooting “Dice”.
Jeff touched the lives of many people, even in his own life’s struggles, he still
found ways to be a helping hand to many. Before he became ill, every morning, he
would send out via texts, words of Inspiration and or a scripture to a long list of
family and friends. In his on way, he spread the Gospel to all that would listen.
Jeff leaves to cherish his memories: siblings, Mary Randolph & family, Kina Crawley; god-sister Sandrus Hawkins;
