James L. Sharpe, Jr. was born on February 23, 1925 in Mooresville, North Carolina to the late James L. Sharpe, Sr. and Odessa Caldwell. He was a graduate of Dunbar High School and attended Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina. He subsequently received a Degree in Management from Lincoln Extension Institute in 1975. James also served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1943. On December 24, 1943, he was united in marriage to the late Barbara J. Dixon who predeceased him to glory in 1984. James was employed at Chrysler Corporation in Newark, Delaware where he retired in 1981 as a member of the Management Team and where he held the position of Safety Administrator. After retiring James worked for a number of local security firms. James loved sports. He played in the Delaware Semi-Pro League and was a former Golden Gloves boxing champion. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards, fishing and dancing. He was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and served as Secretary of the Sunday Night Social Bowling League and was also Post Master of the P.H.A. Masons and past Secretary of Mecca Temple #1. He was also a member of St. Patrick Senior Center. James is survived by one son, David L. Sharpe, of Wilmington, DE; three daughters, Barbara Sharpe of San Diego, CA, Judith Carter and her husband Dwight of Chester, PA and Gloria Smith of Alexandria, VA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Glendora Nelson and Lucille Jones. Also preceding him to glory was his loving wife, Barbara J. Dixon Sharpe. He is further survived by a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relative and friends.
