James Edwards (Jimmy) of Wilmington, DE, passed peacefully on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at age 89. Jimmy was born in Cheraw, SC on February 2, 1921. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothea (Dot) Reynolds Allen Edwards for 46 years. Their union brought them a daughter, Karen Lee Edwards. Jimmy was a member of Canaan Baptist Church and cherished the church affiliation and fellowship of the church members. He was known for his hard work ethic and had a full and rich experience with his careers. He learned and mastered the art of welding at Sun Ship during World War II. After the war, he mastered the art of Dry Cleaning and worked for Lincoln Cleaners. James then started another career following his graduation from Fireman School and became the Head Custodian in the Alfred I School District. After retirement from the school district, Jimmy used his great love of nature to start his final career as a landscaper. He did small landscaping jobs for may years until his final retirement. James enjoyed his family and loved sitting on the front porch of his home on 8th Street. Endless people would pass by and blow and wave and stop to talk to him. He had that loving personality and charm that drew others to him. He is preceded in death by his twin sister, Virginia Edwards of Wilmington, DE; his daughter Phyllis Allen Hightower, and his niece, Michelle Allen. James is survived by his daughter, Karen Edwards Lee and his granddaughter, Krystal Lynette Lee, both of New Castle, DE; his niece, Terrie Vanessa Brown of Baltimore, MD; his daughter Charlotte Williams of Wilmington, DE; his son, William H. Allen Jr. and his wife Ardelia of Oxford, GA; 1 adopted brother, Hytower Edwards of Wilmington, DE; grandchildren, Michael Williams of Wilmington, DE, Edward J. Hightower of Baltimore, MD, Roni Allen, Traci Allen and Janelle Allen of Oxford, GA; 14 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and many fiends.
