James E. Ballard, Age 79 left this physical world for his heavenly home on Monday, August 3, 2009 after a lengthy illness at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. He was born in Mound City, IL on January 9, 1930 and relocated from New York City to Newark, Delaware in August 1989. James served in the U.S. Army for 20 years and retired as a Staff Sergeant E6. Awaiting deployment to LA Rochelle, France in 1957, he was stationed at the United States Military Academy West Point, New York. He was very athletic and loved softball. He loved his family and spent a lot of time with his children and grandchildren and he enjoyed frequent breakfasts with his friend Freeman Harris. He attended and enjoyed the services at Bethel A.M.E.Church He was preceded in death by his parents Ollie Ballard and Bertha Ballard Cobbs and his sister Betty Jo McBride. He is survived by his wife of 32 years Juliana Ballard of Newark, DE; his sister Patricia Franklin of Detroit, MI and his mother-in-law Lula Mae Bell of Lexington, NC. He is surivived by 3 daughters; 2 sons; 4 sisters-in-law; 2 brothers-in-law; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
