Irma Lois Rideout

With sisters by her side, Irma Rideout, age 52, was granted her angel wings on October 6, 2011, as she drifted off to be with the Lord from a long battle with cancer. Her final days were surrounded by family and friends that Irma had touched in some small way throughout her very memorable life. She gave us all such courage and hope and reminded us of the preciousness of life. She loved visiting family members to come eat, then walk her food off, and finally roosting on someone's couch, loveseat or recliner (ain't that right Mom). She was born to Mary and Nathan Dodson on September 17, 1959 in West Chester, PA. She received her high school diploma from Chester High School in Chester, PA. She worked at Fair Acres, Keystone Mental Health Center and the United Sates Postal Service. She also worked as a Child Care Provider. She loved spending time with family and friends. Some of her hobbies were traveling, listening to gospel music, baking, and playing sports, (especially tennis). She also enjoyed walking and running. She would take the children to the park and teach them to play tennis, volleyball and basketball. You name the sport and she did it. When she went to the park, she would ask those who were playing if she could join in, and they would let her. She had a very unique way about her generosity and kindness as she opened her home to women and children as a place of refuge. "The Refugee House. Her husband Jerome Rideout, Sr. and two brothers, Donald Fowlkes and Harold Dodson preceded her death. Irma is survived by her two sons, Emil Rideout and Jerome Rideout, Jr. (Danielle); her parents, Mary and Nathan Dodson; brothers, Ronald Fowlkes (Ann), Jerry Fowlkes, Ricky Dodson (Letty), Calvin Dodson and Barry Dodson (Anastasia); sisters, Cynthia Dodson and Beverly Dodson; sisters in laws, Philomenia Fowlkes and Jacqueling Dodson; stepsons, Gerald Rideout, Mark Rideout, Barry Rideout and Jesse Linwood Rideout.
