Ianthe Lane

July 26, 1931 — November 11, 2019

Ianthe Patricia Bradshaw, better known as "Pat" or "Aunt Pat", was born in Harve de Grace, Maryland on July 26, 1931 to the late Carrie Bradshaw. As a child she enjoyed playing baseball, and attending school, where she excelled academically. Pat later moved to Philadelphia and attended Girls High School, where she also excelled academically and graduated at the top of her class with honors. Pat's desire to become a Registered Nurse brought her to the first nursing school for African Americans, Lincoln School for Nurses, in New York City. She graduated on September 4, 1953. Later, Pat met and married Charles Henry Lane at Zion Baptist Church in 1955. From this reunion she had Rhonda, Daryl, and Brian Lane. She enjoyed cooking, knitting, crocheting, and also loved to travel. She knitted or crocheted baby hats and blankets and donated them to local hospitals. Pat also knitted prayer shawls for the elderly at James Memorial United Methodist Church, and eventually joined their congregation as a member of the church and volunteered during her spare time. Pat was employed as an Operating Room Nurse. She started her career at Albert Einstein Medical Center, and was eventually promoted to become an Operating Room Nurse Supervisor at John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital. Better known as Ianthe to employee's and coworkers, she retired after fifty years of service. Her home was opened to family coming from the Northern Neck of VA. She was supportive, comforting and loving to all that needed to transition. Family also came on Friday's, which sometimes extended to Sunday mornings, enjoying her home cooked meals as they played pinochle throughout the weekend. She was a professional and educated woman. Pat was preceded in death by sibling, Wilhelmina Bradshaw. Pat leaves behind cherished memories to: her daughter Rhonda; sons Daryl (MaryAnne) and Brian Lane; Grandchildren Kevina Farquharson, Daryl and Brandon Lane; Great Grandchildren: Amani Dandridge, Najiyah and Munir Jones, Iyass Yazeed, Shaheed Reddy, Musa Lane, and Aiden Lane; and Great- great Grandchild Zakee Dandridge. In addition, she leaves behind cherished memories to a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
