Hilda Margaret Chapman was born on November 12, 1929, in Hockessin, Delaware to Highland Henry Sr. and Rosie Henry. She passed away on July 26, 2024 in Wilmington, Delaware.
Hilda received her early childhood education at the Hockessin All Colored school and went to Howard High School for high school. She also graduated from Delaware Technical and Community college with an associate degree.
Hilda worked as a cashier at A&P Supermarket until the 90’s. After the closing of A&P she worked at Chase Bank and for Wilmington Friends School.
Hilda loved going on cruises and traveling, dancing and going to shows. She loved day trips to Delaware Park and loved to walk “downtown”. She was an avid newspaper reader. Hilda love to also sit on her front porch and watch the children in the neighborhood playing and loved to feed the children in the neighborhood. She was known to all and a respected elder in the neighborhood often called “Ma Hilda” and “Grandma Hilda”.
Hilda was preceded in death by: Highland Henry Sr. (Father), Rosie Henry (Mother), Colon Chapman Jr. (Son), Highland Henry Jr. (brother), Charles Henry (Brother), Aubrey Henry (Brother), George Henry (Brother), Robert Henry (Brother), Anna Pierson (Sister).
Hilda is survived by: Sylvon Bryant (Daughter), Rose Spearman (Daughter), Lordane Chapman (Son), Jenny Henry (Sister-in-Law), Barbara Henry (Sister-in-law), 9 grandchildren, 5 great- grandchildren, 6 great-great- grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews.
