Gloria Selma Benson

April 25, 1942 — April 18, 2021

Gloria Selma Benson was born April 25, 1942, in Wilmington, Delaware to
James and Gloria Benson.

She graduated from William Penn High School in 1961. After graduation she
attended Delaware State College. In 1962 Gloria enlisted in the U. S. Navy.
The Navy nurtured her love of travel and exploration which would become
one of her many passions. After the Navy, Gloria settled in Chicago. She
worked as an Administrative Assistant for a variety of companies.
Gloria had one son Adam Scott Benson. He was her biggest joy. She was a
loving mother. One of her proudest moments was when Adam graduated from college. She truly valued education.

Gloria loved to explore and travel. Some of her most memorable trips were
taken with her good friends Judy, Earlene, Jeannie, and Colli . She traveled to Russia, Amsterdam, and many other exotic places. When Gloria moved to Delaware she loved to walk and explore the city. She loved flowers. She had a lifelong love of history. The public library and the internet became her favorite places to not only explore history but research the family tree. She spent countless hours and filled many notebooks with ancestry research.

The family could always count on her to educate and entertain with informational tidbits about our family and Wilmington.

Gloria enjoyed the arts. She enjoyed attending plays and concerts. She
hated to be bored. She was an avid reader. She was never afraid to tell you how she felt and always had good advice to offer when needed. She made
the world's best oatmeal cookies which she lovingly prepared for everyone
in the family. The younger kids referred to her as Aunt Glow-ri-a. They
enjoyed playing games and talking with their energetic great great aunt.
Gloria departed on April 18, 2021 surrounded by family. She leaves to
cherish her memory one son Adam (Casee), grandchildren (Santiago, Shiloh,
and Selah), siblings Sandra Cooper, Janice A. Garrett (Felix), Marilyn F.
Benson, Constance B. Saunders (Wilbert), Marjorie B. Fields, Patricia B.
Groce (Colbert J.), James H. Benson, Jr. (Patty), Alan H. Ringgold (Claudette). An Aunt Delores Benson Jackson. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was proceeded in death by her siblings Aida Benson, Charlotte Benson, Annette Blake, and Robert Ash. Previous Events
