George Walker Jr. a retired employee of the Wilmington Court System and the Wilmington News Journal Company died on Sunday Jan 2, 2011 at the age of 87, at the Parkville Nursing and Rehabilitative Center in Wilmington Del. He was born in Perth Amboy, N.J. When his mother moved to Wilmington, De with his older sister and three younger brothers, he attended elementary and secondary public schools in Wilmington, and became an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, he was married to the late Thelma Elizabeth Walker for fifty-five years, and this marriage resulted in the following eight children: Deanna V. Ikhinmwin, Joanne L. Walker, George Walker III, Zelda Allen, Michael Carter, Sylvia Walker, Henry Walker, and Neonta Walker. As a person keenly interested in not only a healthy mind, but also a healthy body, George Walker Jr.'s hobbies included going on long daily walks throughout Wilmington's various neighborhoods, reading Philadelphia and Wilmington News papers, and most important to him, reading his Bible everyday. During his early years of employment with both the Wilmington News Journal and the Wilmington Court System, George Walker Jr. received numerous awards and recognitions for his long years of service with each company.
